I have 2 DVD writers installed, both worked perfect... since about 1 week ago.

Every time I insert a blank or recorded CD or DVD, the computer crashes and restarts.

The BSOD shows IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

DVD burner: Asus DRW 1608P35, LG GSA-H42L

I checked websites from many sources, there are thousands of possible solutions...

But I can't burn or play DVD or CD anymore.

XP, SP2, 2GB RAM, Pentium Dual Core

Any advise is very much appreciated.

Thanks

It might be a memory conflict related with one of your drivers or something recently installed / updated on your machine. If you can determine what it may be, try to uninstall it. If not, I would try to update the DVD drivers first. If it doesn't work, delete the DVD devices in the Device Manager, and make your computer scan for hardware changes. If it's still doesn't work, I would check for virus, and other malwares and try to clean the registry too (for instance with CCleaner which is free). But it might be also a physical defect on one of your devices (then, try to disconnect them all and reconnect them one by one).

After reading your post I remembered something. Few days ago my son connected his portable hard disk on my pc and he installed a so called "USB Turbo connection program". I just removed this software (Buffalo Mini Station Turbo USB) and it seems to work again, at least my PC doesn't crash on inserting a CD or DVD. Now I am watching a movie - no crash so far - but the ultimate test will come sooner or later: burning a DVD.

Whats the opinion? Was that the source of the crash?

Very likely. Try to burn a DVD later and keep us informed whether or not it is back to normal.

Burning was successful. I'd like to mention after the crash I set all hardware acceleration to zero. And burning was done with zero acceleration. Any recommendations on that?

hi'

it sounds like a harware failure here or about to happen ...

compatibility isses are not to talk about with cd's as they are fully compatible with all harware on the market due to their standard.

a dvd-rw or a cd-rw works fine or not!

can always try to update the firmware, but I doubt that will solve the problem ....

I think that you can try to reset the harware acceleration parameters as they were prior to the installation of Buffalo Mini Station Turbo USB. It should work normally as before IMHO as it appears that the culprit was very likely the above mentioned software.

hi buffallo turbo usb is a usb hardrive, as this doesn't require any drivers, this isn't the cause of your crash.

you may want to check your memory stability by using prime95 for hours and see if it comes with any calculation error wich would point to a defective memory or maybe overheating.

Apparently, the culprit was the piece of software ("USB Turbo connection program") that had been installed with this UBD drive, not the USB drive itself.

good point, i just read the documentation it is supposed to speed up usb transfer from their drives by 60% and thus modify some settings "on the fly" wich is not apparently trouble free.
