Many hospitals don't do it. I overheard once at the couinter at BKK Pattaya Hospital when someone inquired - an automatic "we don't do it, no idea who might".

There are many moral and ethical issues linked to it (counselling, trying to convince the requester not to do it)

Someone interested posted on some other board that this hospital does, near 20K baht:

Affiliated genetics can send you the test, you do it yourself, mail back, they check the DNA, send you an official letter. I can personally vouch for the company as I needed DNA testing done on my twins. It was waaaaay cheaper and easier than doing it at a local hospital.

This is a good option. Thanks for the link!

Hello, Im not sure your relationship in question can be confirmed . All the males on her paternal side will have the same Y-chromosome (females have XX and males have XY)

You want to know if this paternal grandfather in question has any brothers . Since a paternal grandfather and paternal grand uncle would have the same Y-chromosome.

The testing samples need to come from her father and the grandfather in question.

If the Y's are not the same then the so called grandfather is eliminated.

If the Y's are the same and there are no brothers of the grandfather in question= confirmation

If the Y's are the same but she has a paternal grand uncle it may not be determined.

Im going to double check the above for correctness and update later.

I don't follow this too well, but I thought it would be just a simple matter of finding out if her grandfather is her father's real father....or put another way, that her father is her grandfather's real son.

I'm not questioning if her father is really her father, but then again, maybe I should.

fwiw, for personal confirmation: the DNA testing can be conducted in many of the Thai hospitals now for about 8,000 baht or 260 USD.

But if you want it to be accepted by your embassy, then you would need to get the approval list from the appropriate embassies,

most would require that you submit samples collected by their representatives in an approved hospital, in front of an approved specialist; sent and received by the embassy themselves, at various costs.

Last year the cost for an U.S. approved DNA was less than 300 USD and it took less than 3 weeks from start to finish.

The analysis might shock some supposed paternal parents.

Do you really, really, really want to know, if you are the biological father ?

The DNA results have broken many farangs' hearts. The more important question that usually follows is,

if the child looks fair skin and somewhat like you, what would your response be to the child and the mother?

Many would raise hel, very few would find it in their heart to continue to be accepting and letting bygone be bygone.

And a few farangs that I know, won't let the mothers know what the DNA revealed because the child looked very much like them.

But if any of you want to be absolutely sure above and beyond any human reasonable doubt standard, then goes for the second DNA from a different lab, which would forever put your mind at ease, one way or the other.

For your own peace of mind, and not for anything of a professional nature:If you do your research via the Internet, DNA Tests are very simple nowadays,Pay by VISA or some other Debit/Credit Card, they will send a Test Kit,take a swab of the childs mouth, and return, results will follow,or there could be a cheaper route in Thailand?

However: I have to say I feel very sorry for anyone that is contemplating this course of action, which is a very drastic and heartbreaking decision, and if it turns out positive, will certainly seriously damage your relationship with the Mother.

In an ideal world one should on a basic level, feel some bond and sense that the child is theirs,it's difficult to describe, but this gut feeling/bonding should be a feeling not to be ignored.

Ask any Farang fathers if the child is theirs? and I suspect the answer in the vast majority of cases would be Yes! and they should also be able to add,"but I cant explain how I know this?"

Assuming the Relationship was steadfast at the time of conception, then why would one question their Paternity?

Nature speaks volumes! if only we can tune in.

Many ladies have multiple sexual partners.

I believe the statistics in the UK are 1 in 8 children are not related to the person who assumes he is the biological father.

(Apparantly in the UK, the more children the woman has with her husband, the less likely he is to be the father)

Nice to check you are the one that should be paying for the child.
