Was it one of their new Airbus 380's that they are trotting around the globe - Will this big new beast have long enough bitumen in Chiangmai?

I caught it too. Big those 747's are. You'd know if it was an A380 because of the strange loud whirr the engines make - I can't forget that sound from last year's visit. Anyway, I believe Thai n Quantas have a partnership and sometimes due to availability out of BKK, they probably just swap out whatever they can find to make the flights happen.

I never heard before that there is any partnership between THAI and Qantas. It seems unlikely. They are members of opposing airline alliance programs and are direct competitors on many routes.
