I think this must the double first in American history, the 1st black & 1st muslim president. Imagine when he'll invite the Al-Qaeda leader for a state visit. Obama meets Osama :o

Obama's VP is Joe Biden.

OBAMA-BIDEN

OSAMA-BIn laDEN

I guess the suliminal message didn't work to well at the voting booths. :D

"Obama" and "Osama". Can't help wondering if they are half brothers.

Please, lets drop the racist rhetoric and reenter the real world, thanks.

Now I await England to elect its first black PM, same for Germany, France, Sweden and a host of other superior nations. :o

I thought the UK alrready had Brown prime minister or is he just beige?

:D

:D lol, he's of darker shade of brown as he's full of sh_tty socialist ideas. David Cameron looks a good bet for 2010 to replace him. Going back to US election, NObama only won 51.87% ofr the popular vote, a narrow margin that shows how polarised is the electorate over the pond. It's not like the overwhelming landslide the wishy-washy, limp wristed liberal media likes to portray. The GOP should have selected Arnie as candidate and paired him up with Palin, maybe that would be their dream ticket for next election: Arnie-Palin 12 :D

Not the brightest bulb in the tree ........

Arnie cannot be elected Prez

yes! finally! great bonuses:

1. We are rid of george bush soon. WAS GOING TO HAPPEN ANYWAY IN JANUARY

2. We are rid of dick cheney soon. WAS GOING TO HAPPEN ANYWAY IN JANUARY

3. We are rid of their cabinet. WAS GOING TO HAPPEN ANYWAY IN JANUARY

4. We are rid of a senate and house that can block our attempts and efforts to change/fix/repair/rebuild/renegotiate/negotiate/ratify. NOT ALWAYS A GOOD THING

5. Now all the news pundits have nothing to speak about except results. I'll be glad to see half of them out of work soon. THEY WON'T BE OUT OF JOBS. THE 2010 MID-TERM ELECTIONS

START THIS WEEK.

6. We now have some room to maneuver. WHERE?

7. The rednecks and right wing christian nutjobs and NASCAR Pro-War fanatics have LOST, and will now pay the price. WHAT PRICE? DO YOU ALSO WANT TO LINE THEM UP AGAINST A WALL AND SHOOT THEM LIKE THAT CRAZY KAT CHICK?

8. We can now RATIFY THE KYOTO TREATY. NEVER GOING TO HAPPEN AS LONG AS DEVELOPING NATIONS AREN'T INCLUDED. UNDER CLINTON/GORE THE SENATE VOTED 95-0 AGAINST. THAT MEANS EVEN OBAMA'S PARTY WAS AGASINT IT.

9. We can open up a dialogue that doesnt involve smart bombing every innocent family stuck in the middle of our fanatics and their fanatics. PHEW! ABOUT TIME!

That fuc_king Bush motherf$%^&er really screwed the s^%+ out of all of us for 8 years. They stole the first election, they swift boated the second, and with the help of their buddies at Fox News, almost burned us this time round as well. INDEPENDENT STUDIES SHOW FOX NEWS WAS THE ONLY TV NEWS OUTLET THAT WAS - LIKE THEY SAY - FAIR AND BALANCED.

I left my country pretty much in disgust, but today I am proud. Not many countries could have done what we did today. GREAT! NOW YOU CAN GO BACK AND HELP OUT!

Those who don't help one another can simply count themselves out for good. "IF YOU'RE NOT WITH US, YOU'RE AGAINST US!"...HMMM, SOUNDS FAMLIAR.

Finally, a chance to unify instead of disintegrate. It's about bloody time. FANTASTIC! A NEW "GREAT UNIFIER". THAT LAST ONE NAMED BUSH WASN'T ABLE TO QUITE GET THAT UNIFYING THING DOWN.

Bush ran as a uniter not a divider and turned out to be the most divisive president in modern history. There is no way Obama can do that badly even if he tried. I don't think he can accomplish everything he wants, no human could, but I totally believe he will bring at least some degree of internal healing and increased unity.

With a name like Barak Hussein Obama and who went to school as a kid in the world's largest muslim country I'm surprised it isn't over 50%.

I wonder what %age of the Middle East think he is or was muslim?

One can at least hope that the Islamist enemies of the west will at least think twice about what the "Great Satan" is all about if they freely elected a man named Hussein. I don't know if it will actually help, but it surely won't hurt.

If nothing else it should could confuse them for a bit - and that's gotta be a good thing.

It wasn't a landslide, it was a decisive electorial mandate. But in terms of actual votes it is not a large victory.

Large victories would for example be Ronald Reagans re-election 1984, 58% vs 40%, or the re-election of Ike in 1956, 57% vs 42%.

Obama 349 electoral votes

McCain 161 electoral votes

Obama had twice the electoral votes as McCain - Slam Dunk of an election

I take little to no interest in this.

But what I do enjoy is the thought of tens/hundreds of thousands of ignorants seething because they think that their new president is an Arabic Muslim Terrorist.

Well done Obama.

You mean "Obama" as in Barak Hussein Obama? Personally, I can't believe someone with that name was elected to the US presidency, just a few years after focusing all the anger and might of the USA's military on a murderous tyrant of nearly exactly the same name in Iraq. So much for being tainted by name-association. Or, maybe McCain's middle name was "Hitler" and we just elected the lesser of the evils? :o

I hate how they keep saying he is the first black president and black this and black that. They should not even mention it, the guy is half black and it looks like to me that if you have any mixed blood and not pure you are the other race.

Anyways lets see how long he lasts with all the KKK supporters not liking this one bit.

Like Tiger Wood. He rather been called a BLACK, than a THAI.

If posting as a regular poster: Racist? Nothing racist in joking about how Obama sounds like Osama. Besides, it's over, he won already. Now he's the President-Elect and open to satire and parody across the globe.

No, just Sydney or something like that. Not a very tough on terror kind of name.

Nothing bad about it if you have a puerile sense of humor. Yes yanks take potshots at their own prez .... but being offensive about names commonly found is Islam (and to some extent other religions) is just tacky

Duhhhhh... How can they have had that many electoral votes when the electoral delegates do not even vote until 12/15/08? These are PREDICTED electoral votes... Maybe you should have a better understanding of the US Electoral College........ Electoral delegates usually do and pledge to vote per the popular vote, but they don't have to......

RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGEE!!!!!!!!!

Seriously, though. Lay off of the caps and people will actually think about what you say instead of completely dismissing it.

I'm glad that the repubs have lost their hold over the country and that we'll have a president who's less out of touch with the world than the last one. Bush was completely uninspiring through eight years and McCain was through his whole campaign.

The sad thing about America is that he'd probably have won if he hadn't tacked the little-tyke campaign-killer Palin. I know a lot of people who'd have been completely fine with an old white man just a year or two away from elevated chances of incontinence, dementia, and death. Scary.

WOW! And you are representative of the nut-jobs that support Obama?

No, i'm just Anti-Bush. I hate democrats just as much as republicans. I even call them Republicrats and Demopublicans because it's all just POLARIZING BS. That's why you leapt at the chance to dog me out. You are just on one side, and don't see both. And that's the problem, and always will be.

There are just as manu nutjobs on each "side". But the founders meant the two party system to be COMPLEMENTARY, NOT DIVISIVE. The Socratic method of teaching and learning through debate is meant to expose insights, understand how each of us think.

Not to devolve into endless diatribe over nothing.

Jesse Jackson is an even worse KOOK than Sarah Palin. And, he dared to show up at the celebration after being caught on tape secretly muttering how he didn't like Obama, and thought someone should bring him down.

Fortunately millions of people decided I am more correct than you are.

And to the joker talking about Obama as Osama, -did you learn your logic from a gumball machine? Is the limit of your critical thought based on how words "kinda sound alike, and what sounds alike must be alike". A meeting with Al Queda? Nah, i'm actually not gonna both with you after all.

OBAMA WINS. THATS ENOUGH FOR ME. AND BILLIONS AROUND THE WORLD AGREE. IF YOU DISAGREE, THEN YOU ARE WITH BUSH, AND PART OF A VERY SMALL CONTINGENT AT THIS POINT. Good riddance.

I wonder what %age of the Middle East think he is or was muslim?

I went two years at an international school in Jakarta, that is making me a muslim?!?

Well, and even while decisive in the predicted vote assignment, it was not quite so slam dunk in the popular vote. Still won, and I will give him that, but get it straight when you boast please.

Electing a black man with a Muslim name shows how America has grown up. You should follow suit.

Well done America. BO seems to have his head screwed on, has bags of charisma and comes across as a nice bloke to have a pint with, to boot.

OT: Some of you guys could do with laughing at yourselves on occasion though, perhaps a sliver of Brit/Aussie humour could be instilled along with change of prez. :o

What has this got to do with Thailand?

The only thing I am glad of is this 21 month unashamed and childish name-calling farce is over.

Unless they mean Thailand will have overtaken the USA in productivity and wealth by the time during the next four years.

They are going to hit all the high earners, who are then going to bugger off and make money in China, India etc. Or, export more jobs to Asia as their inward capital dries up. Who is going to move vast sums from Asia to America to have it "Re-Distributed"?

Hope the experiment with socialism is more successful that it was anywhere esle in the world. Learn from the system in the UK. The more benefits or "re-distribution of weath" you give, the more scroungers, scammers and bone idle people take advantage of them. Then there is an army of lawyers required to ensure that these scoungers and scammers do not have their "rights" withdrawn.

Victory for the left wing press thats all and we in Asia are quite happy to benefit from it!

Thank you

Congratulations to President Elect Obama. As an American I can honestly say, I thought I would never live long enough to see a black president. This should open a lot of eyes around the world. Maybe now we can show the world were not all "gunslinger cowboys" as most countries think of us. I wish him a lot of luck. One thing this does, is, the young black kids in America can never say again, "why should I finish school and get an education, whitey's just going to hold me down." That dog don't hunt anymore.

Tacky? Maybe. But we'll something more than just his big ears to joke about for the next four years. :o
