Lawyers On Koh Phangan

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

For you, which is the best lawyer (or the least bad :D ) on this island. I'd like to change at the end of December. I work since 4 years ago with Pensit & Laws (Koh Samui), but it's definitely not a good place, i tell you my friends!

Thanks for your answers.

If you want good lawyers you have to pay. Pensits are not good lawyers...not even real lawyers (even their Samui manager who is supposed to be Thai is not a lawyer...not even in Thailand). Go to BKK. Lawyers are like doctors, if you want good and want good care, you pay...if you don't you get "Penshits and Laws" :o (now THAT is professional! :D ..."and LAWS"...I LOVE it :D )

Do you need a lawyer for legal matters or just an accountant, book keeper?

If the second one, I suggest Samui Business (Mr Suthep). In Samui/Phangan/Koh Tao many falang-owned business use his services.

About Asia Travel, look like they are again on the immigration police target about fake or made-easy visa. Recently two friends of mine got all their passports photocopied and immigration ask them about Asia Travel and about strange Non/B made in Germany or Switzerland, Now they are very worry about it.

Hi,

I've a company and same like you and i've the obligation in worms the Thai authorities. I'd like to change my lawyer and take a new on Koh Phangan, if it's possible. That's all!

I've no house, no land and nothing that Thai laws can be take to me. I've just a small business and i don't need a best lawyer, just an office approved by the authorities, including for accountancy, where the people will be able to take care of my business (for example each year: make a Thai Audit and Reporting Requirements; who pays the SSO, etc.).

Nobody on this island works with a lawyer on Koh Phangan? There are only the drug's dealer here? I don't think so. :o

Thank you, and please Pilchard, stop your bullshits :D

My accountant Suthep from Samui Business come in KPG every month to collect all the company documents (and the money). He is always available for any problem (WP, visa, passport, company problems) and his staff is very professional. I'm with him from 2001 and I've never had a problem, also with immigration, police or tax check controls. Maybe little more expensive than other consultants, but I'm happy and satisfied with him.

I know about some consultants in KPG, sometime cheaper, but one of them one time forget to extend the WP of a customer, then WP expired, made one new, spend 12000 baht more, only customer fault...

I know also somebody go alone Surathani to renew the WP spend less than 1200/1500 baht with Suthep, few hundred baht, but think about time, ferry, hotel, etc.

This year I've open a new company and my partner need was a cheaper consultant, so we checked some firm in KPG, just to understand the best price/service came from Samui Business.

Anyway, Suthep is not the only one, this is up to you.

Making visa with agent = Not legal (against the law)

Update work permit with agent = legal (if you sign over power of attorney saying they can act on your behalf)

Lawyer = One whose profession is to give legal advice and assistance to clients and represent them in court or in other legal matters

Accountant= responsible for financial reporting, taxation, auditing ect

It ain't that hard really ! :D

Forget the name on the building, but there is a lawyer on the left hand side of the Thong Sala to Ban Tai road (just past Udomporn hardware store).

Her name is Sopha and I've found her ok for sorting out company stuff etc etc. They do all the accounting stuff too.

Have used Suthep at Samui Business in Maenam before, but we switched as we wanted someone local to KPN - the person who said he comes over once a month to pick up their stuff is very lucky ! Certainly wasn't the case for us. His English is good though ...

I used Sopha (the lawyer on the Thong Sala/Ban Thai road, can't remember what her firm is called) and I was disappointed in the service I got, fines for late payment of tax when they hadn't bothered to try and contact me to tell me the tax was due, just waited until I came in on another matter months later. And they failed to do what I wanted to do so the whole thing was a waste of time and money.

I'm now with Crawshaws, who have an office on the front near the seatran pier. There is a lady who works there most of the time, but as far as I can tell she's not a lawyer, just a receptionist and all the real work is done on Samui, so it's not that much different from just using a Samui lawyer - maybe if they had more clients here they'd beef the office up a bit.

On phangan, if you just want any easy WP renewal and you dont want to leave the island, there is a young lass, Annie, works at IBC next to the Yellow Cafe [ask anyone where it is], her english is OK, but she is nice and honest and does what you ask.

Anything more and its gotta be Samui. I have heard some things about Suthep, such as he is a yes-man, you know ' yes I can do this' or 'yes I can do that' but in the end he cant.

For the last year we have been using Morning Star on Samui, they havent upset us yet, but they are accountants primarily, we only use them for accounts, but they can sort visa's, WP's etc.

My advice to anyone in Thailand long term is learn to do it yourself, it will be a carry on the first time but once you know what your doing its fine and its cheap. The Labour office in Surat is good, they all speak english, they help you with forms, and things seem to get done in 10 minutes and then its back in your hand.

well, thats my tuppence :o

We all use morning star, from Koh Samui. They are a one stop shop for all business needs (accounts, legal advice etc). really good price and they come to your office/house in Koh Phangan twice a month to collect paper work etc.

Tuffi and Jee.

They do visas, work permits, company set up, monthly VAT, accounts - pretty much everything a small business needs.

No it's common sense really, some strange advice here... a lawyer is a lawyer and a travel agent a travel agent and there are "accountants" which only have this written on the front window, like an advertising, one finds out once there occurs some legal problem, then it's usually too late!

Only dodgy business needs some sort of a middleman called "agent", I make my WP and my visa renewal myself, never had a problem either!

It's not worth the money spend!
