Hello was woundering if anyone has had any experience with going standby from Vancouve to Bkk, I am hoping to leave around December 20, 21 , 22. because of work date to book is not set in stone and hard to book ahead of time..

There are alot of flights from Vancouver to BKK. And does the cost to go stand by cheaper or more expensive?

thanks in advance

I'm not sure if once can do this anymore since 9/11 and introduction of more stringent security rules and regulations. I've tried to do it via Toronto, and have not been successful.

Nobody does standby flights anymore. This went the way of Freddie Laker and other carriers in the 70's and 80's. Flights generally get more expensive as the date gets closer to your departure date as the seats fill up, but then again if the flights are running light (yield managment) may release cheaper fares.

If price is your motive then China Airlines or PAL (if you don't mind crappy connection in MNL), For EVA, YVR is expensive compared to SEA so if you are close to Seattle consider grabbing an EVA promotional fare from SEA. Suggest you consider purchasing tickets via 2 transactions; departure & return. The AC code share with EVA is more expensive than booking as a BR flight. If using expedia, type in the exact hour of the flight, otherwise the more expensive options pop up first. Orbitz usually has a good inventory for the route so be sure to compare. (Often orbitz and expedia don't appear if you use Kayak/booking buddy on this route). If you are taking a return flight via ANA, it is a code share with AC NRT-YVR and is usually cheaper if you book whole thing with ANA instead of with AC. Be warned, connection times to AC from other airlines usually means AC can't transfer your bags on time, despite star alliance or code share undertakings. Very very long walk to customs from gate.
