Playing My Dvd's On My Laptop

Featured Replies

I want to play my DVD's on my laptop...I have a DVD built into my laptop where I can place my DVD's but they wont play....do I need to download free software? I am not a technical guy so forgive my ignorance here...

Open 'My Computer' on your desktop. Right click the icon for your DVD drive. Select 'Properties.' Click the 'Autoplay' tab. Adjust settings as necessary...

I believe if you're using XP it doesn't come with DVD codex by default.

At any rate down load VLC player, it's free, comes with a ton of codex and will play just about anything under the sun.

Correct, XP doens't have a DVD decorder. VLC is indeed an excellent suggestion.

I don't think anyone should download a codec pack before they have tried VLC which comes with its own codecs.

Much more hassle free to just get VLC. Only if it doesn't work I would try other solutions.

My Lenovo (IBM) came with a DVD player program built in. The first thing he must know is if the CD drive is capable of playing DVD's.

VLC or my favourite, media player classic coupled with ffdshow, but stick with VLC as there is no hassle with setup if you are a novice.

Another thing that i would recommend for a Windows Weenie to do would be to install dvd43. Strips the CSS encryption on the fly and even lets you use the wonderful Handbrake to transcode your dvds to something you can store on your hdd.

But VLC is an excellent suggestion also.
