Roy, it varies not just from one bank to the next but from one hour to the next. Best bet is to look at the web sites for the varies Thai banks - they all have currency exchange pages that are updated. e.g. Siam Commercial Bank, Bangkok Bank, etc. We changed AUD on Friday at BKK Bank for 22.5 but not later it was 23 at SCB. No matter where you go though, it's pretty depressing at the moment!!

The Reserve bank has been buying the aussie dollar to prop it up, first at 60 us cents then at 64, so should not go any lower if they keep doing the same.

It's pretty crap at the moment. The wife keeps checking every day. Cant believe it was about 30 only 6 months ago. now its been as low as 21.

i am sorry to say this but with further interest rate cuts the Aussie dollar has a long way to go down

yet IMO. it is also affected by China dumping many currencies to buy more Us dollars because of some

complex arrangement between the Yuan and the $ .

If you are transferring A$ from Australia, the highest rate obtainable is usually obtained by having a Thai Bank Account and presuming you have one, an Australian Bank and doing a Telegraphic Transfer. Making sure the funds ex Australia are in A$ and hit you're Thai Bank in that way.

DON'T have you're Australian Bank do the conversion into Baht in Australia.

There is usually a fee of the low A$20's so it's not worth doing for small amounts, but for a few A.thou. or more, even with the fee involved you come out better than changing Australian Bank Notes in Thailand.

Similarly A$ Travellers Cheques get a better rate on the streets, but you would need to be obtaining them in Australia without paying commission, which some banks will do for you if you are a Shareholder or hold one of their high profile Credit Cards. (ANZ for instance!)
