Train Travel

Featured Replies

Some of the best rides I've had on train, Nong Khai to Bangkok or Ubon to Bangkok were on the old style 1st class carriages. No A/C, windows open to the cool breeze, wood paneling, crapper being a squatter in the middle of the car, next to it the bath, a dip bath out of the klong jar. Fine old style carriage.

The SRT put these on for a time when their A/C carriages were up for rehab, kept the A/Cs on the C. Mai high density tourist run and ran these as subs on the NE runs.

Seems to me a problem with A/C carriages, 1st or 2nd class carriages is that the double pane windows sometimes fog up in the mornings, can't see anything.

Wonder what happened to the old cars? Still available for charter runs? Termite eaten at Hua Lamphong?
