Thai Airways has announced their new baggage allowance policy to/from North America today. Economy Class passengers can only take 2 bags @ 23kg each for air ticket issued after December 1. That's 30% less than before! It used to be 2 bags @ 32kg. I guess it's got something to do with the fuel price.

Anyway, the only place in North America that Thai Airways is still flying to is Los Angeles.

Any experience with other airlines?

When I first saw the title of the thread I was hoping against hope it would be announcing an increase in allowance to stimulate business... ho-hum. :o

2 x 23kg is still more than twice the allowance from everywhere else (1x20kg): Don't suppose they'll be evening it out any...

Both airlines' websites say 20kg for cattle class, although Singapore allow an extra 20kg for Star Alliance airline gold members; not clear if they will allow an extra 10kg for silvers like me though. Anyway, it's moot since they have the same base allowance as Thai.

A couple of years ago Emirates were still allowing an extra 10(?)kg of scuba gear gratis, but that seems to have been droped now :o

No replies to my thread asking if a one-way ticket gets you an extra allowance on Thai.
