kurgen
School children and other members of the public and the media were invited to the Sea Turtle Conservation Centre at the Sattahip naval base to view what some are calling a modern marvel: a matching pair of white baby turtles. The hatchlings are part of a collection of green turtle eggs gathered from nearby Kram island and brought to the conservation centre to prevent poaching by people looking for a dietary change from chicken eggs. The white turtles are the first of their colour to be hatched in Thailand. This fact is causing great rejoicing among people who think white turtles are a portent of good future for Thailand and are some kind of mystical sign of heavenly approval. There is a suspicion some of the people ascribing mystical properties to the white turtles may have been smoking unusual substances. White turtles are apparently quite common in countries like Mexico and Australia and have been seen in Vietnam, but finally Thailand has had its turn. The schoolchildren certainly enjoyed the entire experience of gazing at the turtles. Pattaya One News
