Hello all,

My understanding of the Thai law is that gambling is illegal, except the national lottery.

Does that also mean if no money is awarded.

For instance, I have been to many carnivals around Bangkok, and found number wheels, balloon pop with darts

and these companies do it openly, but awards prizes. Dreamworld has the same type of entertainment venue

when not on the rides. My question is can anyone do the same with a jigsaw puzzle contest or ring toss

on the street or in a private bar, and award a stuffed animal or mobile phone as a prize.

If so, is a license needed as entertainment?

Anyone knowing where I can find the law please send link.

I haven't been able to find it or where it distinguishes from money prizes to gifts as gambling.

Thank you for any help.

While I don't have exact specifics from the law, my understanding is that you would normally require a license for this type of thing. You might see similar things in various shopping malls - most machines should display a copy of the license. Those that don't usually don't last very long unless they're paying under the table.

what about poker does anyone there play and can you play online if you have online account in uk for example.

That depends on your poker room. As you have no implements (ie. cards) they aren't going to be chasing you - all you need to do is check that your poker room accepts access from Thailand, as well as your deposit method (Neteller won't work).

Thanks for your input, but I am not inquiring about online gambling. :o

I am asking about playing games in a bar or on the street for non-cash prizes, but an item ( toaster..etc)

I would like to findout if anyone can help on the thai law side.

Thanks

Sorry wasn't thinking about machines, but thanks

Considering actually throwing a dart or a ball and a service person running the stall giving

you a prize. Whats the police line on this kind of business?

Except maybe some tea money. I am just trying to find out if it actually is legal.

will I be seeing the inside of a jail cell if I do something like this or

rather my workers?

Thanks
