Stranded Brits Must Fend For Themselves.....

It's not just the Brits, it's a whole generation of wimps we've bred worldwide that believes comfort is a human right and that the world owes them everything they may demand. The me generation. I suppose, collectively, we are responsible, we taught them they are special.

Yes, I personally witnessed the transition to the 'me generation.' On leaving school and starting to workk it was common for my generation to pay 60% of our meagure wages to our parents. The next generation paid on average O - and infact looked for parental handouts. No wonder we have raised a bunch of useless pathetic individuals. Ofcourse there are many exceptions

Maybe this was before is before social secrity or NHS? Consider the newer generation pay high taxes which is distributed through these programs. how many sick beggars in London compared to Bangkok?

At least the "nanny state" in UK is about safety, Thailand - it's about thought and genital control.

The nanny state is about control my friend. Social Security was introduced in 1945 so your conlusions look idiotic

I am a Brit and I am fed up with the British attitude.

- "Someone else is responsible"

- "Somebody will pay for this"

- "Why isn't somebody doing something for me?"

and for the doctor/nurse above

- "I am indispensable and so important, that the world cannot do without me"

HAH!

Sorry, the UK has not been the centre of the Universe for a long time and has NOTHING to offer the rest of the world.

Resting on the laurels of a vanished empire, being on the winning side of a couple of World Wars, playing football (now with the majority of the players being foreign) and above all speaking English (to varying degrees of fluency) is no longer applicable.

Britain is no longer Great, there is no British Empire. Just a bunch of moaners, complainers and idiots like Brown and Gordon. I guess the Brits have voted for what they want.

Sometimes, increasingly often, I wish that I had been born somewhere else.

30 years out of the UK and still suffering at the hands of an incompetent administration.

Yeah, Stupid Brit tourists, coming to a bozo country and expecting the government to maintain control of the airports . Jees ! Next they'll want properly regulated airlines .

Sorry but your statement is the idiotic one and somewhat hostile , my friend .

I was asking if the poster was refering to a time BEFORE socuial security and NHS that children gave " 60% of their incomes to parents .." ?

A question is different from a conclusion . One has a question mark, one ends with a period . ( ? vs . )

And your declaration that Nanny states are about control is rather.. redundant , I know what the term means . In UK Nanny State is about controlling safety , In Tland is about controlling thought and genitalia with absurd TV blurs and porn and sex toy bans.

, And don't forget the alcohol bans and time of sales , that's really grown up..sure see enough whining about that on this board .

I've coined a new term ( I think ) , ExPathetic and it applies to Ex Pats that are unable to see through the sexually induced haze they inhabit while in TLand ...maybe SocioPath-etic too

I must have missed something. Did all your home countries TELL you to visit Thailand. If you think it's your government's fault, you are very sadly mistaken. My mother always told me that I made my bed and I have to sleep in it, like it or not.

The current government here in Thailand is totally spineless besides being corrupt. The worst problem is that the next government will be as bad or worse regardless of what party or who appoints them.

Wow, I think a little compassion is in order. People who come to Thailand come with the expectation of a pleasant holiday--if they wanted adventure they would have gone to Afghanistan, Iraq or South America. A lot of people save for the year to have their holiday and spend accordingly. If they don't know, how long they are going to be here, they have to be careful with what they have. If they leave for another country by bus, they will likely have to buy a full-fare, expensive ticket back home and wait in the country, for a time.

Jobs waiting, no pay, family problems, pets being boarded.... just a little compassion.

As for embassies, there isn't a lot they can do. Can't really bring planes in and 'evacuate' people at this point. If it gets ugly, they may do that. But things need to get pretty ugly first.

Well I know from Austrians and it might be the same for brits:

Telling the wife that the company needs them in another country for a week or 10 days. In fact they fly to Pattaya <deleted>*cking.

Now, no airplane home....Company calls why he does not come to work, Farang Mia tells he should be in work....

BIG troubles!!!

so lets get this straight, people are stuck in a foreign land many miles from home, surrounded by a strange culture nd unsure what the hel_l is happening, they are probably unaware of the ability to spend 24 hours on a bus to KL or 30 hours to singapore, even then they may not have the money for a flight or there may not be available seats when they get there (remember we live in asia so we are accustomed to the area and the way around), some of these people are with children and are concerned about protecting them, the have paid for their flights and their holidays and are asking for help. Big deal, some of you should hang your heads in shame at mocking these tourists, of course they complain and air their grievances.

the most pathetic thing is the people who are criticising the people for airing their views on this trauma and wondering how to get home and will their employers be ok with the situation are quite happily sat at their computer complaining about the government and vote buying.

what gives you the right to complain in the comfort of your own homes while others quite rightly air their concerns about how they will get home and whether the situation here will erupt.

as an example, imagine being in venezuala and they had this situation while you were on holiday, would all of you smart <deleted> on here just accept it without airng your concerns? considering the fact that you are comfy at home and still complaing about the government then I doubt very much that your first thought would be to jump on a bus for 30 hours to another country with a happy smile on your face.

sad sad people that inhabit this forum, hang your heads in shame. up to now i have seen one person on here who went to the airport to offer help, kudos to him, the rest f you, what are you worrying about, i mean its a carnival atmosphere at the airport isnt it, go down there and help out instead of sitting at home with a tiger beer laughing at the plight of others.

If you had any common sense - or sense of history - you may understand that before the advent of SS young working people would have coffed a lot more than 60%Your a

Your obviously some deluded individual. Probably an expat and most likely a flip flop wearing Thai wannabe. The type who should really be put to the sword for treason. If you really think the UK nanny state is about safety then your beyond help.

Well said. The Thai appologists (flip flop wearing idiots) who inhabit this forum are usually partnered with Thais that they cant hold a conversation with, and get most of their opinions from their Chang drinking lower life friends at the local cheap piss outlet. They think they are Marco Polo because they have spent a few years in Thailand and can order their piss in pigeon Thai.
