Depositing A Check In Thailand

A few questions about depositing a check

The company who issued the check to me used a check from Kunthip bank. I have an account at Khuntip but the branch I opened the account is far away, can I use a local Kunthip branch that I don't have an account with? Is there are service charge and how much?

If I deposit the money into a TMB account, will that cost more in service charges? Will I have to go to the branch where I opened the account, or is any branch fine?

And finally, will there be a hold on the money? If so, how long?

Suggest you go to a branch of the bank the check is drawn on, you say Kungtip bank but my guess is the name is Krung Thai Bank or KTB for short. You say you have an account with this bank also. Ask them what the process is and how much if anything to deposit the check. My feeling is depositing a check drawn on the same bank will incur no fee but probably a hold on the funds until the check clears the bank and account it is drawn on. Most likely a week.

The branches of KTB I have been to seem to be very helpful and someone there always speaks some English to help you.

Bank's generally charge for cheque cashing, and there are some inter-region fees - if your branches are far apart as you say, maybe this applies. Deposit it and wait for ~3 days for clearing.
