Thai Mother-in-law Wants To Go Back To Thailand

Featured Replies

Hello,

I am trying to figure out what needs to be done for my mother in law to get back into Thailand. She has asked us to buy her a plane ticket for some time because of family she wants to live with. We have decided to buy her one, but do not know were to start. If anyone has help it would be much appreciated.

A long while ago she married a U.S. citizen and had children (one being my wife). Her husband had a stroke (which is my father-in-law) a few years back, then lost all motor function. She has traveled to Thailand many times in the past, but my wife was much too young to remember. She knows quite a bit of English, but does not know what is necessary to travel back to Thailand. My wife is not sure either, considering she lived in the states since she was 2 and can not ask her father due to the stroke. We have made effort to find out locally, but we live in a small town located inside Ohio. We believe my wifes father took care of the necessary arrangements in the past.

I read that she will always be considered a resident of Thailand, is this true? Can she fly to Thailand and not run into any problems? We are completely lost in the matter.

Please help.....

Josh

Does she have a passport? Even an expired one will get her back into Thailand.

If not she will need to get one from a Thai consulate. She is going to need proof of her Thai nationality. That can be an old ID or house registration.

This is probably the closest consulate to you.

Royal Thai Consulate-General, Chicago : 700 North Rush Street

Chicago, IL 60611

Tel : (312) 664-3129

Fax : (312) 664-3230

She is not a Thai resident, but a Thai national. As Joe said she can go back to Thailand with a passport, even an expired one.

If she want to reside in Thailand again, she can import her household goods duty free.
