good post that sun. well summed up.

if you're a betting man by the way, lump on allardyce.

Sunderland would be foolish not to get Alardyce, he is perfect for the job, and given the right backing, I'm sure he can make a success of it.

Anton could be a brilliant player if he kept his nose clean and focused on football, but he isn't as level headed as Rio.. He always seemed to play better with a classy centreback partner as well.

Look on youtube for a goal he scored v Fulham a couple of years ago..

I preferred the 94th minute, 1 Yard out Equaliser at <deleted> Fart Lane to be honest... :o

Here's the Fulham Goal by the way, absolute quality..

Resigning via a text was not an honorable way to leave. The club deserved better. There's no way Brown will leave Hull. It will probably be Allardyce. Curbishly has also been mentioned and heaven forbid O'Leary. There has been some talk of Strachan now that Celtic are out of Europe.

Next manager of Sunderland? Probably Sam Allardyce. Would prefer Phil Brown, but beggars can't be choosers.

Allardyce may be the right man for the job if staying up is the level of your ambitions. Being an ex-player and a failure at Newcastle should gain him some popularity amongst the Black Cats faithful. But if you are looking for entertainment then forget it. His tactics will include lumping high balls up to Kenwyn Jones while trying to nullify the opposition. If he gets the job, expect his first signing to be Rory Delap for 10 Million.

Nick Colgan, Greg Halford, Paul McShane, Russell Anderson, El-Hadji Diouf, David Healy, Jean-Yves M'voto, David Meyler, Rade Prica, Arnau Riera, Carlos Edwards, Anthony Stokes and Roy O'Donovan. If you haven't heard of some of these, it's because they've been nowhere near the reserves, never mind the first team and they are all Championship level players at best.

He can't even get a game for Falkirk reserves!! Take him back!!!

I agree about Allardyce's Football personally, however as much as i despise it & wouldn't want to watch it week in week out, for the right Club, it can bring them success & i think it can at Sunderland..

Allardyce seems like the obvious choice, although I am hopeful that the new people behind the scenes will go for someone a little more exciting. At least there are a handful of players who, given the right lead, will be able to put in good enough performances to keep us up. We could do with a manager who at least turns up at the training ground every day, rather than when he feels like it.

He is normally pretty reliable & has gave me good, early tips in the past, he has also got a few wrong though.. :o

this man's been doing a decent job at hamburg.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2008/de...-sunderland-job

It was not exactly a request for a phone call from the Stadium of Light but Martin Jol last night did little to discourage Sunderland from getting in touch. The Hamburg coach is believed to be among the names under consideration at Sunderland following Roy Keane's resignation and his comments on the eve of tonight's Uefa Cup tie with Aston Villa suggested he has doubts about the level of ambition at his new club.

Asked about Sunderland's interest, Jol replied: "It depends on a few things because I want to go all the way here. One or two good players will make my team good and I will stay here for a couple of years but, if not, I would think about moving. There is not a lot of resources here so I have to develop young players, but I did that at Spurs. Hamburg is a big club and maybe only four or five in England are bigger. I am fine where I am now but who knows."

Jol, who will return to his home in England for Christmas and might even take in a game at White Hart Lane, has lifted Hamburg to fourth place in the Bundesliga since his appointment in the summer but he is aware of the limitations at the club and is resigned to losing the Croatian striker Ivica Olic to Bayern Munich.

He experienced similar frustration at Tottenham but claimed that the club's transfer policy had changed follow his dismissal 14 months ago. "Spurs have gone for the big stars since I have left which is the big difference," said Jol. "Stars like [Roman] Pavlyuchenko and [Luka] Modric. At the time I can remember that we played with Edgar Davids and had young players breakthrough like [Jermaine] ]\ and [Aaron] Lennon."
