Thailand Blocking Cafepress.com

Featured Replies

Before moving to Thailand I was making money off of cafepress.com, but since getting here all I get is this error:

404 error : File not found

The URL you requested was not found

For the longest time I thought cafepress.com was having server issues until I investigated it. Apparently this is the default Thai ISP level error when a site is being blocked chinese style.

Anyway, doing more research it apparently was blocked about the same time Youtube was blocked, albeit with much less reporting on the subject.

The amusing reason why cafepress was blocked: Buddha-snap doggie G-strings

I'm still trying to figure out why a dog would wear a g-string . . . and why a law against them even exists . . .

Anyone know if this ban is permanent or only on certain ISPs? My ISP is siamcybernet.

Since we are on the subject, the ISP True still throttles YouTube to the point where it's useless. Siamcybernet doesn't.

Of course I can use a proxy, but they are more than happy to riddle my PC with malware and steal passwords . . . at some point I might just pay for a trusted professional encrypted proxy . . .

why pay when they are free :o

I'm in Bangkok at the moment, I can access cafepress.com without any problems.

Because:

1) the free ones are not encrypted (want to transmit your credit card #'s through a hackers proxy server?)

2) the free ones often install viruses on your PC (it happened to me)

3) the free ones don't promise to not steal your passwords (so easy to do!)

what is your ISP?

Hi,

With True ADSL at Pattaya I get :

This URL has been blocked by

a Court order

Or

it could have an affect on or be against the security of the Kingdom, public order or good morals.

Ditto, no problems either. My ISP is True BTW.

From the link already provided about the doggie G-strings here: http://www.theregister.co.uk/2007/05/30/ca...rops_underwear/

Is the following:

According to Reuters, Thailand's Foreign Ministry spokesman Piriya Khempon yesterday said the products had "offended Thais and Buddhists" and duly demanded their withdrawal. Around 90 per cent of the country's population subscribe to the religion, and consider dogs "inferior beings".

Every year about this time I see dogs sporting T-shirts, some even custom made for them. Have never seen a cat wearing any clothing over here though. Does this mean that they are considered superior beings?

Just wondering...

I saw one of those very small dogs (handbag style) wearing what looked like a t-shirt and a miniature pair of blue jeans with a small cut so it's tail could stick out.

All this dog needed was a handbag to live in, then it would be all set !

before someone calls me out on this, i just learned that some free proxies claim to be encrypted . . .

anyway, it appears the ban was lifted but some ISPs 'forgot' to remove it from the ban list . . . my gf uses True, so I'll just visit her place later when I need cafepress

thanks people!

ps - at Chatchuchak market (too lazy to figure out how to spell it) even the squirrels and rabbits for sale wear shirts

Hi,

The problem is not the T-shirt on a dog,

but the picture of Buddha on this T-shirt...
