I was wondering if there are many all kindergarten / preschool schools in thailand. Is it possible to only teach very young children? Im teaching middleschool in korea, and it's as close to hel_l as I hope to come. I adored my job teaching kindergarten that I had before this. I'd like to get in to a similar situation.

Also... is it possible to do private lessons for young children? (Koreans pay mad money to get their little kids to learn english, is it the same in thailand? or is it more a government funded thing?)

One last question...

What about nanny type positions? Do they exist (for reasonable pay) taking care of a couple of very young children and teaching them english full time for 3 or 6 months?

There's certainly a lot of kindergarten work around and as far as I know there are some schools that are just kindergarten. My present school has nursery, kindergarten and pratom(Grade 1-6). I teach KG1 which is 3 yr olds and then 2 hours a week I teach the 2 yr olds in nursery.

As for private classes I have taught 3 and 5 yr olds before and there is a school in Khon Kaen that just does extra class lessons for kindies.

Check out some job websites for Thailand and you can see what's available.

But the salary here in Thailand does not even get close to what you can achieve in Korea. But it can be a lot more laid back. Are you male or female. cos for some reason you can get more money teaching anaban (kindergarten) if ya female.

Private lessons are between 300-600baht, depends on if ya work for a private school or private, private.

the new school year starts in May so save ya money so that when you get here you can buy any stuff ya want.

like motorsi, fridge etc

i think my school will be looking for a kindergarten teacher but the pay is not so good about 33,000B plus free accommodation (easy work though)

If you teach m5/m6 15-18year olds here in Thailand you will be in hel_l. not just close.

Meh... I'm not really after the money anyway. The culture, has totally gotten to me, and I've got to get out of here. I quit the kindi job here because I couldn't stand the pressure they put on those poor kids. 5 year olds... write a 4 page essay on a long book you can barely read, memorize the essay, and present it as a 4 minute speech in front of your parents and their friends. If you make a mistake, your parents and teacher will be shamed. What's wrong, why are you crying? Are you still a baby?!?!

Female. I think it's the same everywhere... people want substitute mommies for their kids.

Great. I finish here mid-april. I will have about 5-8k USD, depending on the exchange rate at that point.

What are the hours on something like that? Here in Korea they make you sit around for hours and hours each day with nothing to do, just because you should be there. 8:30am-to 5/6pm and the kids are only there for 4 hours. Do people typically have a lot of non-contact office hours to sit around and pick their noses? Also... do you typically have your "own" class, or do you have several classes of kids?

I will neeeeeeeeever teach teens again. Ever. Never. Forever never.

I started working with teenagers shortly after I stopped being one, and I still love it. Just two years ago I would never have believed I could tutor a five year old Korean girl. I tried it, and she was a hellion. Her next door neighbor, a six year old Korean boy, was much better.

I miss those teenagers.

thaicbr good informative post - it would have helped to indicate your neck of the woods then the OP or possible applicants could size up the situation compared to their current situation (location).

eg: some people may like to teach kindy kids but to relocate to the end of the earth (in their mind) may not be part of the gameplan.

Mijan24 thats what pm's are for. asking for more info etc.

and to the OP in anuban here it ranges from very basic English up to not so basic, but nothing like you reported about Korea.

Good luck
