Warning- Immigration And Consulates Close

Featured Replies

Since it has come up a couple of times already.

Everyone going for a visa or extension should be aware than immigrations and consulates are closed Dec 31 - Jan 4.

That means at a consulate if you apply for your visa on the 30th you will not get your passport back until the 5th.

Also the consulates in Malaysia will be closed the 25th for Christmas. Laos will be open on the 25th.

Kota Bharu will only be closed the 1st of January.

So if you are in a bind its an option.

Laos Thai Immigration Embassy moves from current address to a new residency on the 5th January 2009 - it is closed from 31st December and reopens on the 5th January at new address - I will post new address in a later post as i cannot find the piece of paper I wrote it on right now. From what my Thai friend said it is right next door to a Hotel - convenient for the one night stay possibly ha hah hah.... maybe anyone going to Laos this week could also follow up the address in case i cannot find it.

Thanks for that important info. Hopefully it will be a larger and better organized operation.

I just sent an email to the embassy asking for the address just in case you don't find it or another member does not report it.

Are you certain the consulates and immigration are closed until the 4th Jan? I just went to the KL and Singapore consulate websites and they say they are only closed 31st-1st...

I'm planning to do a run to Penang around 1st to get a tourist visa, but if you're sure the consulate is closed until 4th i'll just get an exempt entry one.

Thanks!

The consulate websites have not been updated since the cabnet made the 2nd a public holiday.

You could contact them yourself to confirm. But they will not be open until Tuesday because the 29th is a holiday for them. Also there has been a unconfirmed report that the consulate has run out of stickers and will not have any until January.
