dan!

You'd be better off trying on www.bangkoktonight.com

website , they have members living in Pattaya that could show you the ropes , pretty unsociable bunch on here to be honest , no offense meant :o

Chonabot,

Are you still miffed because no one took you up on your offer of a pint or two when you were last in Pattaya? Well, I'll tell you what mate, I'll be there in Oct/Nov time and if we coincide I'll buy you a Sing or two to settle your furrowed brow.

Scouse.

Not really miffed Scouse, TBH I think most of the people using this forum are based outside  Thailand , the ones who live in Thailand probably have too much going on to be bothered.

I met up with a few on the Bangkok tonight forum, they're mad for it !

Thanks for the offer though , if I'm around at that time I'll take you up on it :o

I disagree with Chonabot ="unsociable bunch on here to be honest”

I made contact with a few forum members before my last trip to LOS (last month), I had  great fun and meetings with some expat’s out in the sticks. Also I have had immense info sent to me by other expat’s I did not have time to meet with.

So Thanks to Peter-Paul-Martin-Thong-Simon and Geoff.  (You all know who you are) and for sure I WILL BE BACK.

Fair enough , just reflecting my own experience , i.e posting on here to meet expats in Bangkok or Pattaya or Isaan , a month before the visit.....no replies . in my book thats pretty unsociable :o

in my book thats pretty unsociable

It's hard to find the energy or commitment to do anything in Bangkok. I was alone last night and am probably alone again tonight (roommates have gone away), but can I find the energy to call friends, many of whom live in this very building? No.

I met a guy on another board who lives in Bangkok. We told each other we'd meet for a drink, but that was months ago and it still hasn't happened. I don't really know him, which might be one reason, but he sounds like an interesting guy, so there's no excuse, really.

It's been months since I last went out for a drink. Isn't that dismal? I may as well be living with that hairy guy in the Tora Bora caves.

I know what you mean , Bangkok has the ability to drain one's

energy more so than any other city I have known.

What is it, the heat? I wish I knew.

Can't be the heat alone. Bangkok's not the only hot place on the planet.

The prospect of a trip way across town can be daunting and one is inclined to put off until later, that which we can't be bothered to do today.

Sure, some people are unsocialble but then, meeting people off the web has got such a bad rap in the western press over the years that you can understand some caution.

On the other had, Thailand is a fairly large country & meeting up in Bangkok when you live, say, in Phuket is not an easy thing. I have had a few people contact me privately about Samui & have happily met up with some in London & have arranged to meet up with others when they are in Samui.

If you take a look at the people on this boards location there aren't many of us, outside bangkok, that are near each other in terms of travelling times (no matter how nice you are there is no way i'm taking a 8 hr bus trip to Phuket for a night out on the razz!)

That said, in response to mrrentoul, i sometimes can't be bothered to meet with friends in towns only 20km bike ride away from my house! Heat, humitidy & daily life sometimes take their toll & laying on the floor watching tv under the fan seems like a better option than taking to the streets! :o

I would like to throw in my two cents here but you can listen to my comments with a grain of salt because I am not yet living there.

I believe that one reason may be expats have moved from their home country to get away from many of the natives in their country and dont really want to try and find a bunch of them all over again.  Another reason may be that its a bunch of men giving invitations but if it were women, you might find a greater response.

Not even if I wore a dress?
Depends on what you look like in a dress.   :o

Brother Dan!

How old are you?   I was 45 when I first hit Pattaya 5 years ago, and the fact that I never went there when I was a young buck is a big regret!

Contrary to what you may hear, Pattaya is the best.   There are decent hotels there for under $10 USD a night right near the beach.  Many hotels have huge buffet brunches for $2, but I eat the light Thai food here and there.  Very healthy.  Learn to love it, but if you must have Bratwurst, or Steak & Kidney, it is there too.  In nearby Jomtien you can sit on the beach with a ceiling of umbrellas and be waited on hand and foot being served tall Heinikens, squid grilled right there, fresh strawberries, and even steamed crabs cut so the meat slides right out. All boated with a nice buzz and you ain't spent $25!    Jomtien is lovely, but Pattaya is where to stay.   Usually the sweeties you meet are from Isan and the people serving you up too are from Isan, so it is one, big happy family.  If you find a really nice lady, they will drive the $3 a day motor bike for you, keep all your stuff tidy and make you very happy.  Take good care of them.  Let them do the motorbike driving!  There are far too many distractions that can cause accidents.  Make sure she is cool FIRST because it is much harder to lose one than get one!    They all say they've only been there 2 weeks, usually 6 months, but take it with a grain of salt.  Tip the maids very well.  They are very honest, and you will need extra towells in the rainy season.  The young ladies are a little rowdier now then they were a few years ago, but they are some of the best in the world.

It is like Mardi Grax to the tenth power, but 365 days a year.   Locally brewed ice cold Carlsberg talls for 75 cents from the corner 7-11 and you can walk down the street drinking them.  The traditional Massage is a way of life there.    The average Thai knows more about massage than most professionals in the Western world, so do a 2 hour full body at the Pattaya wellness center.  The fresh juices at the Big C will rejuvinate you.

Blimey his £500 will be done in the first 2 days :o

Truth is , no amount of advice will prepare him for Pattaya.

I first went there 17 years ago,aged 20 , still haven't recovered, I love it :D

Brilliant!

I can still remember my very first night in ptty.  We were staying at the Royal Garden.  The first bar we reached was the one on the corner on soi P.O. and 2nd rd.  We got talking to an American who was with a Thai girl. He took us to the Marine Disco.

You can imagine what that place seemed like for two 20 year olds.   :o

Bit like where where you the day john kennedy etc...

First night in Pattaya, check into the Palm Villa, quick shower /swim/change and walk over to the Malibu on corner Soi P.O.for a couple of Singhas, down to Beach Road do the beer Bars via the ANZAC and end up on Soi Diamond at 5-6 in the morning on a "Ha" baht bus back to hotel. (then another quick one)

Now fast forward 20 years-check into the Palm Villa,shower/shave/swim etc.over to the Malibu on corner Soi P.O.Beach Road for a couple of Heinekins, then beer bars-Carlsberg, (ANZAC Pub-Gone) and finally a quiet finish at Soi Diamond at 2am in the morning (cant take it any more)and back on a "ha" baht bus to Hotel.

Only a matter of time before I get used to it...meanwhile....

20 years onnnnnnnnn

  :o

That's the place, Malibu bar.  I couldn't remember the name.
