Holiday Planning Advice

Featured Replies

i'm thinking of going down south to the beach for a few days over the new years break. i'm suspecting that many places will be booked out, and it may be hard finding accomodation, but i don't know for sure.

has anyone got any advice for me in this situation, and for suggestions of decent places to go?

i'd like to do some swimming and possibly snorking. a quite place would be nice. is there anywhere which has those kind of activities and is still fairly close to bangkok?

I always liked Trat; Koh Chang, Koh Mak etc.

Not that close to BKK though, about 4-5hours drive then a ferry ride.

i'm thinking of hua hin, and using that as a centre to explore the rest of the prachuap khiri khan province.

if i'm right, it's only about 2 hrs from bkk.

but what are the chances of picking up some cheap accomodation over the next week - i.e. 100-300 baht p/n for a basic room? do they jack-up the prices for new years, even if they are not full? it's hard to find contacts for the cheaper places on the internet for bookings because they don't tend to advertise or take advanced bookings. if anyone knows a place i could call i would really appreciate it.

If you can find that rate, the establishment is unlikely to be paying staff to take bookings.

hua hin are minimum 450baht/night - guest houses over the see, next to the hilton. No aircon, but at this time of the year and with a cool breeze from the sea you don't need it.

just walk in - even on a new year's eve
