Can anybody recommend a cheap and good hotel in downtown Sydney, NSW, Australia for 6 nights May 5 to 11, 2009. Advise room rates, if known. Or perhaps a rental apartment?

How to make the booking, please. Thanks.

I recently stayed at the Vibe Hotel, Sydney CBD. The hotel is fairly new, clean and modern with just about everything most people need. Its just down the road from the Downing Centre Courts & Hyde park, walking distance to everything in the CBD & you can rooms there in May for about $140 per night.

Sydney can be very expensive for hotels, this is definately at the more reasonable end for accomodation

I lived for a year and a half at this place:

www.ashfieldmanor.com.au . A bus ride into town but you can see the bridge from the road outside!

The Macleay Serviced Apartments - Potts Point - http://www.themacleay.com/Default.aspx

$260 for a Harbour view room - if thats your thing (sure was for me) - $1540 per week.

Other rooms there - other options.post-31308-1230279416_thumb.jpg

The Beatles used to stay there back in 60s.

It is Potts Point, not CBD as are Roslyn Gardens Motor Inn (good for a night or two).

Potts Point is my home, I know the area, many (most) of the hotels have been converted into apartments.

Not really walking distance to the city, although I was doing exactly that every day.

The OP did not say what he needs to do while in Sydney. For leasure, Potts Point is fine, Rushcutters Bay is on it's other side. Otherwise, I would Google for CBD apartments, like this site.

College street is OK for CBD access, no transport needed.
