Here's an issue to do something about; illegal garbage and waste dumping.

These pix are taken at the short cut road between Plai Laem and Choengmon, near Bongoes.

Clearly somebody is taking his construction waste and who knows what else here on a regular base. Stuff like this is definitely not helping out with the image that Samui is trying to create and I can only hope that the Puu Yai and the new Mayor can and will something do about this practice.

This problem isnt limited to Samui, its a strange mentality to profess a love for ones country then set about littering aimlessly :o

I agree with you. I find it amazing that people care so little. This dump started with a few plastic bags that were never collected.

You can bet that if this was the main route used by VIP's on their route to the airport it would be squeaky clean.

Perhaps there should be a website with photos such as yours showing the "alternative Samui" naming the areas/Tambons which could then be copied to the Mayor,TAT etc. Or Maybe a local paper might also dare to have a regular "name and shame" column . Almost as bad are the cement mixer lorries which rinse out their barrels by the side of the road, thus destroying all verge life.

Where exactly...I need foundation for my driveway :o

Fully agree Gatorade and this might be good idea, although I'm not sure how to go about this. Maybe one of the higher up's on Samui is watching this thread and gets into action.

Excellent sample of the cement mixer trucks, completely forgot about them!

Does each area still have it's head man(phu yai ban) under this new status. Maybe he could be pursuaded to do something, even if only to report it to the Tesaban.

Those Tambon areas with the noisy loudspeakers in the mornings, giving chats to the local Thais by the head man, could encourage people to be on the look out for the 'fly tippers'. :o

Happens all over the world,it cost's money too get rid of rubbish,so it is easier too dump it on somebody else's land, and as then they think, not my problem any more. :D

It stems from the way people are brought up,hate too see what their dwellings are like if they dump rubbish like this.

Samui has always had problems with fly-tipping,just be thankfull they are not dumping it on your nice beaches at Choeng Mon. :o

Gooner,

It seems the beaches are taken care of by the ocean it self, beach cleaning is another area in which Samui could 'clean up' it's act a bit more.

It's just unfortunate about this illegal dump, it indeed started with a few garbage bags but now it seems like a common used dump area.

Hi Limbos,

There was a large dumping area cleared and fenced off on the ghost road not so long ago, so it seems like there are people responsible for clearing these eyesores.

Hopefully someone on TV will have a contact number for you?

Cheers

Yes it has got so bad that the "totters" have arrived on their motorbike sidecars and are rooting through the various piles of rubbish in search of re-cycleable items etc.

The strange thing is that this road leads to some very nice residences and the occupants have to drive by this eyesore every day. I wonder how they can feel living so near a tip with its associated hygiene problems. There are also other tips starting up along this road so it would seem that the authorities are turning a blind eye to this particular area.

maybe these were not real rubbsh dumps. they might have been like u said just practice dumps.????

Hear hear, this is how it looks like now.

It may be total coincidence but it's nice to see that something has been done.
