Hi folks

I have made a few searches but i can't seem to find anything on this.

I am aware i need to do this in person at the embassey in Bangkok but what i cannot find out is translation costs of the documentation and the costs of having the affirmation authenticated and the translation certified by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Can anyone point me to any websites that might list this kind of costing or for that matter has anyone has to pay this stuff recently.

I would also be interested in translation costs for Visa documentation too as will be putting in a spouse visa application once we're married for her to come to the UK

Many thanks in advance for any info.

Oh btw it is my intention to follow the general template of Roblpl for which i am very grateful.

The "affirmation of the freedom to marry" certificate can be downloaded from the British Embassy Bangkok website and, bar the signature, filled-in and typed up before you go to the British Embassy. Once signed in the presence of the Embassy staff and returned with the Vice-Consul's signature (usually the following day)you will have a one-paged document. Normal cost to obtain a certified translation from an authorised agency is/was 500 Baht per page.

Cost to have both the English and Thai documents authenticated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) (Chaeng Wattana) is a two tiered / two priced system - fast track within a couple of hours and normal a couple of days. I forget the acutal charges but they are somewhere in the order of a few hundred Baht per page.

FYI - there are (used to be) Thai brokers within the MFA who can take care of this and even the marriage for you. Armed only with the Affirmation of the Freedom to Marry certificate (in English and in Thai) and passport / ID card my fiancee and I entered the MFA in the morning around 10 am and left as husband and wife a few hours later. The broker took care of all the arrangements, authentification of the Affirmation of the Freedom to Marry, taxis and marriage at the Nonthanburi Townhall around midday. (From memory I think I was asked to donate 500 Baht tea money to the official at the townhall). Afterwards we returned to the MFA for the marriage certificate and record of marriage to be translated into English and to be authenticated by the MFA. The total cost, including taxis to and from Nonthanburi, translations and authentification was only 3,000 Baht. This was back in in 2004. Prices may have increased a little as I have heard of 10,000 Baht being quoted today, but if you shop around within the MFA and the different brokers hanging around on the third floor you should be able to get a good discount.

Excellent info and thanks a lot for the replies. I will look into the MFA brokers and see what prices they are likely to charge. If it is reasonable it would take a fair bit of pressure off me so might be an option.

Not entirely sure why Coganp decided to qoute me but as he is new it is probably an error.

The US Embassy charges 30USD for the affirmation to get married. If you are divorced a second 1 page document need to be filled out for another 20USD. You can pay in USD cash or Thai baht or with credit card. You can make appointment online and can get this done in an hour.

The US Embassy lists several translators on their website near the Embassy. They charge 350/400baht per page and do the translation in an hour.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs have same day or 2 day 'regular' service. They charge 800baht per page for regular service. (cash only payment)

The affirmation to get married is valid for 6 months as per the Bangrak Amphur.

Once you are married, you can translate the marriage registration/certificate to English and certify with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to use it for visa request to USA, Australia or Europe.

You can also hire an agent to do these errands for various fees.
