Fast Loading Pix

Featured Replies

Maybe some of you webmasters could tell me.

Example

Click on a thumbnail and in a blink it's there.

TIA

udon

they don't load particularly fast for me here in Thailand on dialup.

Nothing too special about the page, just that the pics are quite small - aroud 30k or so.

They are probably preloaded. Can't really judge .. I am on broadband so everything looks fast ot me ... :o

If they come up in a blink, then they're more than likely in your browser cache, or you're connected at 8 Mbps!

Each "big" picture is only 25 - 30 K bytes, and once you've clicked on them once, they are cached (in memory) so you don't have to wait for the internet or for your hard disk.

It is size and quality that matters (as always!!)

An image for the screen only needs 72dpi, as that is all the screen can manage.

Once you set that as the quality the size comes down as well.

20-30K for an image will give a reasonable speed even on a dialup.

You can always allow users to click on the image to get a bigger better version if they want it.

As already stated, turning on the cache facility of you browser also helps,

as can local proxy servers, which also cache data.
