Hi,

My names is Gerald, I'm 44 years old, living in Thailand since 3 years with my brother ( 46 years old ) and my parents ( already retiered, living in thailand since more than 15 years ). We are not working in Thailand so since 3 years we had a Non Immigrant O visa thanks to our parents situation.

Before thai administration asked for the financial situation of our parents ( deposit of 800 000 baths ) but now it seems that they are asking ( in order to make a new non immigrant O visa ) for my brother and I a deposit of 800 000 baths each. I would like to know if we must go back to France to make a new visa or if it's possible to make it in Thailand or any consulate or embassy around here ( Vientiane, Penang, etc ).

Is someone had the same experience and have any advice for us, please contact us.

Thanks

Sorry I do not understand what you are saying. You do not qualify based on your parents retirement.

Your parents need 800,000 Baht in a Thai bank to get a reirement extension every year.

You and your brother need to get a Visa from a Thai Consulate to stay in Thailand. It is highly unlikely that you will get a Multi Entry Non O Visa in Asia. You best you would get is a Double Entry Tourist Visa from Vientiene. This would give you almost 6 months with a border run and extensions.

You should not have been able to live in Thailand based on your parents situation, as that is only possible for children under 20 years of age. Guess you have been very lucky so far.

No, you don't need to go back to France to get a new visa. A visa is only a permit to come to Thailand and ask for permission to stay. The permission to stay is a different thing. You are already in Thailand and now need an extension of stay. The question is where that extension of stay will be based on.

The requirement of 800,000 baht is for an extension of stay based on retirement, but for this you would have to be 50 years or older.

The rules for extensions can be found here: http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/post-a70477-.html

If you register with a Thai language school and follow clases for an average of 4 hours a week you could go for an extension of stay based on retirement. This costs around 29,000 baht a year and you can strech it out to 5 years.
