Never been to Koh Phangan and look forward to it. Just wandering how far apart are the beaches Ao Thong Nai Pan Yai and Ao Thon Nai Pan Noi? Within walking distance?

Also any recommendations on accomodation? good hotels? resorts?

yeah within walking distance but quite far by the main road way. you used to be able to walk between them through the hotel but they have built up there in the last 2 years so i not sure you can now, by road prob 30-40 mins walk

Also whats the safest way to get there, road or boat?

don't rent a motorbike to get there unless you are very experienced on one, it's a pretty bad road to get there. but you can take pickup taxis or rent a jeep to get there. if you want to hop around to the other beaches you can hire boats.

Yeah will most likely either catch a taxi, dont really plan on hiring a bike or car.

travelling by boat is that safe and how long will it usually take? also whats the approximate cost from the pier (coming from Koh Samui).

you need to take a boat from mae nam or bang rak to thongsala, about 250b. get the taxi once you land, and that will cost about 150b per person, and takes 30 mins. to rent boats to other beaches from thong nai pan, the price varies depending on what kind of boat, how many people are going, etc. to rent a jeep, get it in thongsala, usually about 800-1000b per day.

there is a direct express boat access from MAENAM in Ko Samui. You need to arrive before 11 h in Samui (airplain), boat leaves at 12 h noon, serving several beaches in Ko Phangan on the east coast. It takes little more then 1 h.
