Solar Electricity For Driveway & Garden.

I was wondering if you could economically install some solar electricity generating panels to feed about 10 outdoor lights. Why is this not used in Thailand, obviously there is no shortage of sunshine.

Noticed that some flashing danger road lights are functioning on solar. Ok they might be placed without much logic but they are working. What’s the problem with solar here?

I think the major issue is cost. PV panels of sufficient size to run a sensible light when you include batteries and charging electronics are not cheap, a length of cable is much more economical.

Have a look here for an idea as to what's available:-

I can buy a lot of cable and light poles for these prices and with low-energy CF lamps I can run them for a while too :o

We see a lot of solar powered traffic signals in India even in the cities, evidently economical at the low power levels required.

EDIT Thai company http://www.precise.co.th/precise//index.ph...6&Itemid=44 Precise International Corporation Ltd.1842 Krungthep-nondhaburi Road, Bangsue, Bangkok 10800, Thailand Tel. +66 (2)910-9700-12 Fax. +66 (2)910-9713-4

Thanks for the info. I mailed the Thai company and ask them a quotation of their products.

Solar lights don’t have to be that expensive anymore. LED lights and panels are common in other places and available on eBay. The light fixtures are pricy because the structure and shipping them to Thailand would be too much of a hassle.

Would be nice to light up on solar, just a thought.

  • 1 year later...

saw them in HomeWorks next to Big C in South Pattaya.

I think they were 149 baht each,my mate bought 2 and they work ok,small yet give light where you want, ideal for a driveway, just stick them in the ground with the attached spike, dont forget to remove the battery cover strip from inside.
