January 23, 200917 yr As with many of you i have problems with the internet speeds here in Bangkok. Its ok for surfing but sometimes for work i have to move files up to and sometimes exceeding 1 GB. Its heartbreaking when your FTP client says its going to take 24 hours or more. But i have an idea that may work. Right now i move files to and from a server in Denmark. But what if that server was based in Thailand? The domestic traffic is always a lot faster so that should help my up- and download speeds right?. But what happens on the other end in Denmark? Will the problem just be moved to the other end in Denmark or will it only be a slight decrease in speed because the internet is so much faster there? If you agree that this will help my up- and download speeds please inform me how and where i get a server here in Bangkok. I dont speak thai. Thank you! :-) Jannik
January 23, 200917 yr Don't know if it would help you much, but have you thought about rar'ing up your files into smaller, more manageable bits, say 100mb parts and sending those parts all at once? It would slow down each individual transfer, but overall should be faster.

Thank you! :-) Jannik First at all you'll need to keep in mind that you upload speed is much more slow than your download speed! Let say you've 512 kbps up than you max upload will be 512:8= 64 kByte/s while if your download is 4 mbps your max download will be 4000:8= 500 kBytes/s! But you'll mainly NOT reach the max speed's! For uploading you should use an upload manager with accelerator as for downloads as well to get the most out of your connection. I use 3DFTP which has an accelerator build in as well as resume (if supported by the target server) and you can get it from: http://www.3dftp.com Unfortunate it's Payware but the investment is ok if you've a lot uploads. Maybe you download the Trial for to test that prog. A server located in Thailand will be quite expensive and the intl. connection from Thailand isn't that good for to recommend that IMHO. Cheers.
January 23, 200917 yr You could try putting it somewhere intermediate like Singapore or even Australia (connections through to Oz are fairly good). Or if time is not too pressing, don't forget we still have snail mail - DVDs in the post or by courier. But then you need someone on the other end.
