Hi All

Does anyone know what's happened to the thaiaikikai website? The site doesn't seem to exist, and there are no new updates on this centre. As far as I know the only other place is the dance centre.

Any updates would be much appreciated as I'm moving to BKK soon.

Thanks

Beng

I did a search on http://www.aikiweb.com/search/search.html

or go to http://www.aikiweb.com on LEFT side you see Search Dojos (or something)

click that, & just on countries, pick Thailand from the Drop Down menu.

There is 8 Aikido schools listed for all of Thailand with phones, emails,

web sites.

Maybe you can email the other schools & track down your bangkok aikido

training group that way.

Or pop down to Krav Maga Pattaya for some Krav Maga training! ;-)

Hope that helps

Gerry

P.S. I just found this site, is this what you were looking for... http://www.thaiaikikai.com

Hi gerry

Thanks for the link.

the sites you listed are the ones I was referring to.They seem to be down or they don't exist, so I don't know whether they are still around. I could find it though following the way you mentioned.

As for krav maga... don't think i could cos I have a torn ligament in my right knee, so kicking is out of the question. Its pretty hard core right?

I'm looking for a "soft" martial art and also not necessarily help me in a street brawl.... sounds interesting anyway.

Cheers.

Krav Maga is strike orientated, as we teach it in Tactical Krav Maga.

But its not really a "kicking" reliant system , e.g Tae Kwon Do, or how some Karate styles are trained.

all Kicks are low level, "below the belt" & of very simple nature, kick in groin, side stomp kick to knees/shins

stomp with inside/heel of boot (toes pointing out, e.g. this stomp kick done with right leg, your toes

would be pointing out at 2pm/3pm on Clock) done to knee or shin, with scrape down shin fast to instep if available)

Here is an example of the damage this type of Kick Can do to an Attackers Leg. Krav Maga Stomp Kick (check out the x-ray photo of leg destroyed with kick)

To answer your question directly. It certainly would not hinder you, an in ability to Kick.

Anyway Kicking, is way down the list, when it comes to street self defense, most attackers

happen in "hand shake distance" which is about 18 inches, so your right into hand striking,

dirty shots, Palm Shots, Tiger Claw strikes to face, Eye Gouges, Opened Handed Slaps (cupped hand slaps

to ears, or carotid on side of neck), punches (to throat), elbows, bites, etc... non stop & destroy the

attacker, within that range, before he can get upper hand & make your escape when attacker, is stunned.

I can kick Ok ( 25 years this month, :o mainly MuGenDo Kickboxing 4th Dan Black Belt)

but on the street re"Security" work & Door work when I did my stint at that back in Ireland, I think I only ever

Kicked once in a real live street encounter. So in ability to kick is not, an knock out factor (excuse pun LOL!)

when it comes to learn Krav Maga.

We got a 57 year old man, who has a steel rod in this leg since 40 years training with us right now,

& he is lightening fast, & gives a "gentlemanly" wake up shot, to lads half his age here in Krav Maga Pattaya

In general people train at their own pace & ability, & the full on stuff is optional.

Which we do not do all the time anyway. In general, keep it sharp, practical, work on

core krav maga self defense skills, I incorporate alot of hand work as in Western Boxing, into

the Krav Maga, (with goal of self defense in mind). "Good Hands" which are best gained through

Boxing training, & sparring, are essential to any street encounter, & Krav Maga originally was based

on Boxing with Dirty Tricks in the form of WWII Combatives.

Unfortunately many Krav Maga people have gone off in the learn 100s of techniques, hide under this mist of over hyped "special forces" BS.

(special forces use guns 99% of the time, LOL!), & most KM could not "box eggs" never mind an attacker,

Thats the truth.

In Tactical Krav Maga, we leave out the 100s of useless techniques. work on a core of basics, with "improvise being

the key" & within a students own levels &desires, work in Fighting drills to Live Fighting, empty hand. empty hand Vs Weapons, & Weapons too for self defense. No hiding out, all we teach, we "pressure test"

So that is the General Gist of Tactical Krav Maga Thailand as I teach here in Pattaya.

Plus its fun but complimentary still to the self defense krav maga, & a nice change from

the "gouge eyes" stuff, to put on the boxing gloves, & have a fun spar with controlled contact

which most people enjoy, as its a great release, good work out, keeps you sharp & agile in general

re the self defense martial arts techniques. & in most class after the Tactical Krav Maga, I add in

about 15 minutes of boxing or kickboxing sparring, to work on this.

To explain Krav Maga in very simple, basic & indeed true terms..

"Stick your fingers in attackers eyes, knee him in the balls, & go home safe!" :-) simple as that.

I hear there is an Aikido class in the Tae Kwon Do School in Pattaya in Mike Shopping Mall but

I do not know anything re the details. Apparently there is 2 different Aikido "styles" in that dojo

the Y.. something... the harder style of Aikido... (Y as I cannot remember name) & then I think

a Japanese Instructor of high dan rank has a separate AiKiDo Pattaya Group too in same dojo

in the original form of O Sensei .

Not sure if your down in Pattaya, but there is also a new big Martial Arts center in Pattaya Klang,

with kung <deleted>, karate etc.... looks v nice gym but i have not been in there.

We Tactical Krav Maga Pattaya are in Kombat Muay Thai Pattaya

Then if your in Bangkok check out, Soi 13 off Sukhumvit in Bangkok at back of Ambssador hotel

the new Boxer Rebellion Martial Arts center with Jeet Kune Do, Krav Maga, Kali, Savate & a host of

other Martial Arts styles. Some of the lads in Boxer Rebellion are also into the SOFT Internal but more martial

styles of kung <deleted> such as Ba Kua & H-singi kung <deleted>.

(if I had time, I would like to do a bit of Pa Kua myself

as it seems the more martial fight orientated of all the internal styles of kung <deleted>, & the internal power, it

develops, as I have seen & explained to me, would be very useful, in adding an extra "stinger" to a

good old wallop in the head, one would be obliged to dish out to a street attacker criminal, mugger etc)

I got a new self defense e-report ebook krav maga I am writing, you can get it on

this site krav maga fist free ebook

Hope all the helps, your welcome anytime if you want to drop in, right now

in Pattaya at Kombat Muay Thai, Krav Maga class is Tues 4-5pm Thur 4-5pm Saturdays 12noon-130pm

only 300 B for 1 single class, as we are a self defense club, or if you commit to a few class goes as cheap as 160B a class

which is not bad.

Learn to save your life for the price of a pint! :D

Cheers

Hi gerry, sounds like krav maga can whip out some serious damage. My aim is not to be the ultimate fighting machine, but to practice a "spiritual"/soft art like aikido or even Tai Chi. Now that you have mentioned pa kua it sounds quite interesting.

One thing at a time. Will try out Aikido first in Bkk!!

Thanks for the explanation! Who knows, if I ever visit Pattaya, will drop by the centre... :D

The Renbukan dojo in Sukhumvit Road is alive and kicking! Contact details here: http://www.thaiaikikai.com/eng/location_rbk.html

Hi Raro... thanks! I guess the server was down or something. Will sign up at the Dance Centre when I move back and really looking forward to it!

Do you practice as well?

mrducky ... Out of experience, I strongly recommend to sign up with rembukan dojo rather than Dance Studio.

The reason for this is that Fukakusa Shihan is teaching there regulary.

If I'm not wrong he's visiting Dance studio every now and then only ... Have fun training Aikido and if you happen to come to Pattaya then just visit us for some training at Mike shopping mall.

We are a very small group but training regulary ...

PS.: Raro, hope ur back is getting better and that u can continue ur training very soon. I will ensure to pull out some usefull and fun techniques on your next class :o ... I know that you love the fun part :D

I found this school some time ago shaolinkungfuthailand.com

They mainly train Shaolin Kung <deleted>, but also Wing Tsun, Tai Chi and different weapons. All trainers come from the Shaolin Temple in China. I've been practising for more than a year there and it's a good work out. The people are very dedicated and honest. It's also comparably cheap to other places.

Good Luck!
