Hello all.

Can you please help.

I have been trying to find some good websites that have games that my 4 year old can play on the comuter that can assist in his English learning.

He has lived in Thailand and is having some difficulty learning english.

I was wondering if there are any websites that he can play which will aid in learning the phonetics of the english alphabet and then any further learning. I try to teach him as much as poss but due to work commitments I can only do so much and my wife tries but of course like most thais cant pronounce the phonics properly.

Thanks slippery

All nice websites for toddlers. You may need to supervise your son initially until her gets the hang of navigating the sites on his own. I recommend you print some worksheets for him to colour in afterwards (see last link) as it reinforces what he's done on the computer and helps familiarise the shape of letters on paper instead of a screen.

Obviously I don't know you or your son but even though he's only 4, he may already be absorbing plenty of English and just not using it until he's ready. The more interaction he has with English speakers, the better. You say you're busy with work commitments, is there anywhere your son can go to socialise with other English speakers, like a playgroup ?

Anyway, hope these links help. :o

Maybe the mods could move your thread to the teaching forum ? You might get more response there.

In addition to Hong Kong's suggestions, there are a lot of Thai-English childrens books available from Sa-Ed bookstore. I've bought many for my partner's daughter. These are very good for basics like alphabet, colors, numbers, animals, etc.

It's a bit pricey, but you may also want to consider buying a copy of Rosetta Stone English Volume One. It's something that your missus can also use and work together with your child in using it. When there is confusion on something, she will be able to explain in Thai or call you for help. Also, children are generally very good at recognizing and memorizing imagery and associating it with words, which is one of the main concepts with Rosetta's total immersion philosophy. There's enough information in the Volume One CD to keep both of them busy for years and give your child a head start with English at school. Looking at it over the long run, the cost really doesn't seem so high for what can potentially be obtained from it.

Your child is still a bit young yet but you may also want to consider buying a Thai-English keyboard for your computer. You can get one for only a couple hundred baht and it will help everyone in your family over time.

There might be more info available in the tech section of the language forum.

Good luck.

That where my 5 years old son always plays and learning English. Also many famous animation as well.

Children will pick up languages fast, just try more extra language at home.

And international school also good start cause he will speak Thai with mother's family / friends but he will learn English at school.

Best wish for little man :-)

My kid's school recommends these websites as having educational games for children

www.woodlands-junior.kent.sch.uk

www.primarygames.co.uk

www.primarygames.com

www.bbc.co.uk/schools/

www.sparklebox.co.uk

I also pick up Disney games at Central Chidlom that teach the alphabet, counting and there's a Mickey's Phonics Quest that my 4 year old is working on at the moment. They're all around 250-300 Baht each.
