Ranong Border Crossing

Featured Replies

Hi, I'll have to do a visa run on my non-B by 25 Jan and am thinking of trying Ranong instead (as I may be in that area). Just a few questions:

Does anyone know of any reported hassles there lately?

Is the visa still US$5 if you want to return to Thailand straight away?

Can I pay for motorcycle taxis/boats, etc. with Thai baht on the Myanmar side or do they accept US$ only?

I'm thinking of catching a bus to Chumpon and then take the train from Chumpon to BKK (I can't do long journeys by bus). Anybody done it that way?

Hi Carl,

Out of all the border crossings i've found this to be the most pleasant. The boat journey is very beautiful if you get a nice day and Khawthong is a nice little town. Thai bhat is widely used there however i'm not sure if the place has been affected by last weeks catastrophe.

The visa costs should remain the same $5 or 300 bhat.

Take care,

Sav

Is the border open?, is it still ok to go there now? I have a visa run on the 2nd.

cheers

Sav,

Thanks for that. Will probably give it a go.

Thanks for the help regarding Ranong :o

The Ranong border is open and hardly looks affected.

Last time I did it from BKK I got a VIP bus from the Southern Bus Terminus which left at 9PM and arrived at 7 am. Time for breakfast and then off to the immigration.
