People in southern coastlines warned to be aware of high waves

BANGKOK: -- People living in Thailand's southern coastlines should be aware of strong wind and high waves over the next couple of days, the Meteorological Department has warned.

Residents in the country's coastal provinces in both the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea sides, particularly those in lower areas, should be prepared for possible flooding due to higher tides in the sea; while small trawlers should temporarily refrain from sailing out in the sea, the weather bureau said in a statement published yesterday.

The strong wind and high waves, around 2-5 metres, was caused by the influence of strong high pressure from China, noted the statement.

People in the country's northern and northeastern parts are, on the other hand, facing the cooler weather, also caused by the strong high pressure from China, as temperatures in the areas will lower by 2-4 degrees Celsius over the next couple of days, according to the Meteorological Department.

On top of moutains, people would face frozen temperatues, the weather bureau warned, so local residents and tourists should take care of their health.
