Feeling A Little Isolated

Featured Replies

Hi Everyone,

I have been in Bangkok for almost a month now. I have noticed there are a lot of westerners (I am from the U.S.) here but they have not been very friendly. Now the Thais have been very friendly but unfortunately I have not been able to communicate. How can I meet other English speaking people (whatever race)? Oh ya I am happily married and only looking for friends. :o

Thanks Peregrine8

Hi,

I was feeling like you a few months ago, its hard making new friends, i have recently joined the british womens group, there must be a similar set up for american ladies, it can feel really lonely in a strange city even if you're with your family if they are anything like mine they soon make friends and adapt to their new lives.

Good Luck!!

Well, I smile alot and am friendly and find that works pretty well. :D

(of course, I'll talk to anybody so that might have something to do with it :o )

But there are quite a few groups and we have a pinned list, I think http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/List-Womens-...il-t145459.html

Hi Peregrine8,

Unfortunately I cant offer any helpful suggestions of what is available that havent already been mentioned (plus i live in the north), but wish to welcome you to the Ladies forum. I think you will find the ladies here really helpful, particularly when you are still trying to find your feet and make new friends.

So, dont be feeling too isolated, come and join in! *hug* :o

if you play sport - or even aren't that sporty, but are prepared to give stuff a try, you should contact The Southerns

There is touch rugby (ie non contact) which is easy to learn had has a good mix of males and female, mostly expats.

There is also netball - a sort of non contact version of basketball played by former british colonies.

Huh. I thought only the Aussies played netball. :o

Nope, was in a championship junior team myself at senior school (high school to you non brits) goal keeper & goal shooter (guess how tall I am) :o

Boo is an Amazon :D (so speaks shorty :D )

Anyway, sports is a good idea, as is going to some Thai Visa get togethers. I see BkkJames is putting together one in the Bangkok Forum. You should go, most of them are fairly normal :o

Thank you all for your responses. I am already feeling a lot better. I will definitely check out the links also. I guess I just need to try to get involved. I do not know why I thought I would meet people while walking around.

Thanks Again

Peregrine8
