Newsgroups

Featured Replies

I have an ADSL account with True. I called them to get their newsgroup server address so I could access newsgroups through Outlook Express. Couldn't get it to work. Called them back and talked to a tech guy and he said True doesn't support newsgroups.

Called KSC and got the same answer from them. Two questions:

1. Is this info correct?

2. If so, can anyone let me know the contact details for any ISP in BKK who does support newsgroups? Loxinfo? I know that I read newsgroups when I had an account with them several years ago.

Tnx in advance.

A couple of years ago most ISP's haf newsgroup servers.

Nowadays I'm not sure you can find any at all in Thailand.

If there are around they will be text only (as in the old days!)

Newsservers are heavily used for binaries nowadays (means mp3, software,movies,...) which creates heavy loads on the servers. The nly reliable and fast way to get your newsgroups is a pay for use news server.

Yes, Lox does support news groups

Most ISPs (and even more so with Thai ISPs) don't support news groups (nntp servers). They're not that popular or well-known, and the costs associated with even a small server are quite high. The nntp servers that are present at most ISPs are usually quite small and do not carry even close to a fraction of the available groups, not to mention the available spool (articles).

If you only want access to the text (discussion) groups, then there are quite a few webs which have HTTP access to these groups. Google groups for one. If you're serious about getting access to binaries (games, DVDs, CDs, mp3s, hacks, porn, etc.) then you should subscribe to a pay server, as they have the most complete feed. The price is around $10/month for a basic subscrition, which should be adequate for the abyssmal broadband speeds here.

try looking around here, may help, may be a false lead...

Pinging news.ksc.co.th [203.155.0.23] with 32 bytes of data:

Try a service like www.newsfeeds.com.

Not expensive and all the news you could ever want is there.

Wow, that was quick. Great to have this forum here. Thank you all for your replies.

I know I can access groups through Web pages but I need to create some instructions for doing it through a newserver so that is where I am coming from. I will check out Loxinfo since someone said they may support it.

While you're at it, check out Internet Thailand. They used to have a news server (new.inet.co.th), but I just tried it and it doesn't work. You might try calling them to see if it's changed. Their number is 0-2257-7111, every day between 8.30-20.00 hrs. except public holidays.
