Puea Thai Party Divided Over Leadership

george

It seems Shin clan and fuhrer Chalerm are a bit divided on who should run the party. Chalerm and his gun club want ermmmm.... Chalerm while Thaksin and clan wants a person "acceptable to the public". It'll either end in tears or with a shed load of dosh changing hands.

Quite what shin clan mean by a person acceptable to the public is unclear considering previous selection of cheeleader of 76 Samak. Obviously even the Shin clan realise that Chalerm is a bit of a poison chalice.

Opposition Puea Thai Party MPs supported its Chairman Police Captain Chalerm Yoobamrung to be next prime minister should the no confidence motion be successful in dissolving the Democrat Party-led coalition government.

Puea Thai Party Chiang Mai MP Surapong Tovijakchaikul said February 20 that the Party would support Police Captain Chalerm, the Party's Chairman, to be next prime minister if the Party was successful in its no-confidence motion and dissolving the government.

He also said there were more than 50 per cent of the Party's MPs at the moment supporting Police Captain Chalerm as the most suitable choice for the nation's new leader.

Surapong also claimed the information of Puea Thai Party to be debated at the no-confidence motion would cause the government to be unable to administer the country.

Well guess most of the country will be hoping the censure fails then.

Considering PTP seems to want to name and shame ministers who are having affairs it doesnt sound likely to suceed and the Prachai loan thing seems confusing. The milk issue could be more damaging but funnily enough that seem to go back to the previous government with some dude who dont wanna be oppositon leader but demands to run the country laready having to deny his links to it.

All games.

As well as any mention of the only people that Thaksin trusts...

Yaowapa Wongsawat, a younger sister of deposed prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, would lead Puea Thai members in the North.

31601.jpg

With the big Shinawatra family tree... he's covering more ground with the "only people" he trusts now...

In the Northeast, the leader would be Payap Shinawatra, Thaksin's younger brother.

As for the central region and Bangkok, sister Yingluck Shinawatra

and the latest.... sister Yaowares Shinawatra has the southern region... :D:o

Has he figured out they are all clueless politically and thus forced his hand to go back to the likes of Sudarat and Pongthep??

There is a split between the Shin clan and professional politicians in PTP. Thaksin is trying to resolve this no doubt with all the visits etc and this will be part of it. Power and money games.

Does anyone know what the going-rate is, to convert a Chalerm-supporting MP, into a Shinawatra-clan candidate, once one has been selected ? Or should this question be posted in the 'Business' forum ?

I forecast a rapid fall, in the conversion-rate, once the latter's count passes 50% of PTP-MPs. The decision whether to deal now, or hold-out for a better price before the inevitable crash, must be quite frustrating.

My money would be on the lady with the money !

Such is democracy, Thai-style. :o

PM nomination in no-confidence debate not revealed

Puea Thai Party has not revealed the nomination of Prime Minister in the no-confidence debate, but accepts that Police Captain Chalerm Yoobamrung is one of the candidates.

Spokesperson of Puea Thai Party Phromphong Noppharit said that the Party would consider the nomination of Prime Minister in no-confidence debate on March 3.

The Chairman of the Party’s Members of Parliament (MP) Chalerm Yoobamrung was mentioned as one of the candidates, but the Pracharaj Party Leader Sanoh Thienthong disagreed.

He said Sanoh, as an experienced senior politician, was entitled to his own view.

Sanoh also previously proposed the idea of a national government. The meeting of the Party’s Executive Board is likely to discuss Sanoh’s opinion. The name of a nominated prime minister has not been revealed as it is the strategy of the Party, because according to the regulations the nomination must be submitted before the debate, currently every one has his own nomination.

If the nomination is not acceptable by the society, Phromphong said that the people should understand that it was a democratic process.

Meanwhile, all 187 MPs also were ready to be appointed as a Prime Minister.

The Party would explain to people about its decision.

NO CONFIDENCE CENSURE

Puea Pandin Party faction to abstain

The Puea Pandin Party's minority faction will not support the upcoming no-confidence motion of the Pheu Thai Party, a leading member said yesterday.

Wallop Thainua said the group, led by Pracha Promnok, would abstain because it has not been given information on the mismanagement and corruption of the government so far.

The decision has been relayed to the party, he said.

The party has 26 MPs, with 17 backing the Democrat-led coalition. The nine other MPs voted in vain for Pracha as prime minister, but have since said they are not an opposition clique and would stand by the government on some issues.

Pheu Thai Party spokesman Prompong Nopparit said his Party would hold a meeting tomorrow to decide which of its MPs would be nominated as an alternative prime minister when the opposition lodges the censure motion against Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva.

Chalerm Yoobamrung would be among the candidates to be considered by the Party, he said.

Witthaya Buranasiri, the chief opposition whip and a Pheu Thai Party MP from Ayutthaya, said Chalerm is likely to be nominated as the alternative PM candidate because he has long experience in politics.

"Chalerm is the lieutenant of the Pheu Thai," he said.

The Pheu Thai Party, the Puea Pandin faction and the Pracharaj Party of Snoh Thienthong will meet today to discuss the censure plan as well as select the alternative PM candidate, he said.

Chalerm to be Pheu Thai Party's PM choice in censure showdown

The Pheu Thai Party has decided to nominate its MP Chalerm Yoobamrung as replacement prime minister for the upcoming censure debate, Party Leader Yongyuth Wichaidit said Tuesday.

The party executive board is expected to formalise Chalerm's nomination by March 11.

"Chalerm is the main driving force to file the motion of no confidence, hence he should be honoured for his work," chief opposition whip Withaya Buranasiri said.

Withaya said the main opposition party would duly inform its partners, comprising the Pracharat Party and the splinter group from the Puea Pandin Party.

He said the censure debate would take place even though the coalition partners might neither co-sponsor the censure motion nor approve of the choice of Chalerm to replace Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva.

The opposition partners have been scheduled today for a meeting.

The issues and targets for censure will likely be finalised next week.

Puea Thai Party proposes Chalerm Yoobamrung as a Prime Minister

Puea Thai Party unanimously agreed to propose Police Captain Chalerm Yoobamrung to be the new Prime Minister in its bid to launch a no-confidence debate.

Peua Thai Party Leader Yongyut Wichaidit revealed after the Party meeting today that the Party had unanimously agreed to propose to the Parliament President the name of Police Captain Chalerm Yoobamrung, a Member of Parliament of the Puea Thai Party, as an alternative prime minister in order to open no-confidence debate.

The issue would be considered by the party executive board on March 11, before submitting the no-confidence motion and Prime Minister’s dismissal to the parliament on the same day.

Opposition Whip Chief Witthaya Buranasiri said that he would inform other opposition parties about the party's decision on March 5. On a question that the Pracharaj Party Leader Sanoh Thienthong expressed his disapproval with the party's decision, the process would still continue, he said. However he thought that what was more important would be the debate's agenda, which would be sent by party members on March 6, and the debaters would be finalized on March 9.

National reconciliation is a long way off wilst Thailand lives in the shadow of the military. A government should be able to govern and the ballot box is their watchdog. The fact is that the current constitution was written to make the new government appear legitimate by a mutinous military who seem to always get away with. All they have to do is say they are defending the monarchy and flood the streets with soldiers, something that was sadly missing when the country was recently held to ransom with the illegal occupation of the airports and parliament!

I think it will get worse before it gets better as the poor are now unwilling to suffer the yoke of surfdom anymore; and the old elite cannot accept loosing their autocracy.

Even a great lump of PTP dont want Chalerm as PM. The only reason they have selected him is because they dont expect the no-confidence to succeed. Oh plus trying to select a new leader could rip the party asunder. They are very divided.

New old bull, same old china shop, more of the same same as usual.

The chance if Mr. C. successfully running things well is nill.

Just think back to the pronouncements he's made in his last 2-3 cabinet ministry appointments.

You could just hear the permanent secretary's colons twist as he randomly made press releases.

As for censure... censure with what.

Seems just an exercise at vindictive time wasting.

And stroking a Puyai's size 14 ego in the process

Chalerm has his own shall we say little personal problem too, which many know about, which anyone who is aware of would immediately realise the PTP are just taking the P***. Appointing him as health minister making edicts about drink being bad for people was shall we say the ultimate irony considering.

I may be wrong (I frequently am :o ), but I suspect that the real problem is that Thaksin can't afford to afford to put a viable candidate in charge of his party. As long as the party heads/potential PMs are non-entities like Somchai or loose cannons like Samak and Chalerm, his followers will wait patiently for the day he returns in triumph. However, if the party or country was lead by a capable leader who had been chosen or at least approved by Thaksin, the urgency to bring Thaksin back would probably fade away.

I think it is also that the only truely competant ones ALSO run their own parties,

and then sell their blocks to the highest bidder, if they can briung in enough votes alone,

or get adequate coalition partners. So that's where all the horse trading comes in.

One competent guy gets his cabinet chair, or installs his personal puppet from his party to do his bidding,

in return for being elevated to public eye and the coalition moves on. But take away the top rungs,

like has happened to TRT/ PPP, and you just get left with the under-trained puppets in charge, sort of...

or the loose cannons, wild and loud enough to get press, but not bright enough to actually get the jobs done properly.

This is the legacy of PPP; all the brighter minds are X-d out. Some are behind the scenes,

and getting earmarks from phone headsets glued to their ears, others are just waiting it out,

off the scene, since they burned many bridges on the way up, and can ONLY hold position when

a significantly more powerful patron comes and re-scoops them back up.

No Thaksin, and many rest at the bottom of the food chain awaiting rehabilitation.

Some are wallowing around the street level BS, like running red shirt brigades,

and hoping for the master's hand return to dole at the trough...

When you buy the best and brightest you must ALSO buy their whole team of

underlings and trainees, and puyai's idiot sons needing a job, in exchange for daddy's block voters.

Lord knows better than letting the loose in the family company to run amok there too...

No opposition partners join Pheu Thai Party's planned censure motion

Opposition partners yesterday set the Pheu Thai Party adrift to go it alone in its censure of the government, even though they would remain on the opposition bench.

The splinter group of 12 Puea Pandin Party MPs refused to co-sponsor the motion of no confidence on the grounds it was too soon to form a judgment on the government's performance.

Party Leader Pracha Promnok, who also leads the splinter group, endorsed the decision to isolate the main opposition party.

Puea Pandin Party MPs will not take part in grilling the government.

Pracha said he was still willing to discuss the matter with the Pheu Thai Party although his group had already decided to drop support for the censure.

"Puea Pandin MPs have detected no suspicious activities to warrant the censure and the Pheu Thai Party has not shared any evidence to back up the charges," Puea Pandin MP Wallop Thainuea said.

Wallop's colleague Kittiwattana Pokmontri said the opposition should monitor the government for a few more months before deciding whether to push for censure.

Another opposition MP, Suradet Yasawat, said he deemed it inappropriate for his splinter group to endorse the censure motion while mainstream Puea Pandin MPs remained on the coalition bandwagon.

Pracharat Party Leader Sanoh Thienthong urged the main opposition party to abandon the idea of the censure and opt for a general debate on the government's performance instead.

Snoh said the censure, if held, would lack credibility and unnecessarily inflame political animosity. However, a general debate would be suitable under the present situation, while the Pheu Thai Party would not be obligated to nominate MP Chalerm Yoobamrung as replacement prime minister, he added.

Chief coalition whip Chinnaworn Boonyakiart said he expected the censure to take place on March 26 to 27.

Chinnaworn said the tentative date of March 25 was unsuitable because Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva would be abroad.

The other opposition parties have basically wrecked the credibility of the censure motion. Any censure motion on any government a few months into its tenure is just poltical posturing and in reality wasting time. It is now about Chalerm's ego.
