Pheu Thai Party MP Visaradee Techateerawat

Police to Issue Summons for Opposition's Rising Star MP in Contempt Lawsuit

A rising star in the opposition Pheu Thai Party will be issued a police summons after the Constitution Court filed a contempt lawsuit against her over her criticism of the court during last week's censure debate.

The Constitution Court has filed a defamation lawsuit against Pheu Thai Party MP Visaradee Techateerawat of Chiang Rai.

Police will soon issue a summons for her, according to Metropolitan Police Commissioner Police Lieutenant-General Worapong Chiewpreecha .

Worapong added that Visaradee is being charged as an individual, so that she cannot use her membership in the House as a shield against the lawsuit.

On Wednesday, the Constitution Court Office revealed that it had filed a contempt charge against Visaradee at the Prarajchawang police station for remarks she made during the censure debate.

Chaowana Trimas, the Deputy Secretary-General of the court's office, said Visaradee had defamed the court by her remarks.

During the censure debate, the 27-year-old opposition MP had criticized the court's rulings dissolving the Thai Rak Thai and People's Power parties, saying the court did so to benefit the Democrat Party, which was the opposition party at the time of both rulings.

Visaradee is the daughter of former Chiang Rai MP and banned Thai Rak Thai executive Wisarn Techateerawat.

National Reconciliation Bill is deemed unnecessary

Deputy Government Spokesperson Suppachai Jaisamut said there was no need to propose the National Reconciliation Bill to the Parliament now.

Mr.Supphachai said that in the current situation, the Members of Parliament (MP) of Phuea Thai Party should not propose the National Reconciliation Bill, because if they considered that the country needed reconciliation, the rally should not happen.

He said he would ask the Phuea Thai Party to make just one choice, if they wanted to use the parliamentary means, they should not get involved with the rally.

The 'New, Banharn Two', says:

We need to change the rules back

and not coincidentally let the boss off,

big surprise.

Mr. B was one of the classic Thai political strong arm men,

and he liked the old rules. He could win under the old rules.

Let's get them back, come on sonny boy speak up.

The only ones really whining for a 'return to the old rules',

are those crooked enough to have gotten caught

and canceled by the newer rules.

After giving out evidences for the case Peua Thai said Democrat Party received money but did not declare as per the law, I'm thinking Peua Thai will be dissolved again. :o

I don't think Pheua Thai is organized enough to be a threat anymore.

Reduced to just noise in the background.

But if their charges passed to the EC prove unsupported and thus false,

then yes, they could get dissolved for filing false evidence.

Which would be of their own doing.

Puea Thai Party Leader Yongyut Vichaidit

Puea Thai Party Leader wants to step down

Puea Thai Party Leader Yongyuth Wichaidit plans to step down so that his Party could be revamped and better prepared to fight back against the government.

In an exclusive interview to The Nation, Yongyuth admitted his Party now needs to be completely overhauled to prevent it from sinking further.

The most important aspect of the restructuring should be to change the executive board, Yongyuth said, adding he had made preparations to submit his resignation.

Yongyuth decided to step down after calls by certain PTP MPs asking him and Party Secretary-General Sunee Luengwichit to resign because both of them were not MPs.

Yongyuth admitted that he is not qualified to lead the PTP now that it is the main opposition party. He said the Party Leader needs to be an MP so that he can perform as the Opposition Leader. He added that the Party Leader needs to have enough political influence, which he also lacks.

"I've tried to resign three times already, but I was asked to hang on because of legal technicalities," Yongyuth said.

a long 4 months later and still no real PTP Party Leader (can only presume the bowtied Yongut is still the official leader)... and also, still no Opposition Leader assigned...

Asked about Puea Thai Party’s preparation to find a new leader this month, Mr Witthaya said the Party required that this person be an MP. Several individuals have already expressed interest in this position, but no serious consideration had yet been made.

Because they don't want to be banned from politics 5 years. Khun Chalerm does not want that. No one wants. Peua Thai can be dissolved anytime.

That's one of the results from the Constitution Law made under Army government: to weaken the not favorable political parties.

to nominate as prime minister when it files a censure debate motion against the government.

Is this subject outdated? Puea Thai nominated Khun Chalerm months ago.

I thought we talked about executive members of Puea Thai.

Decisive-leadership in action there, down at the PTP, luckily they don't have a government or country to run as well, it might all prove to be too much for them ! :)

Because they don't want to be banned from politics 5 years. Khun Chalerm does not want that. No one wants. Peua Thai can be dissolved anytime.

Is there any evidence, that the party-executives of the PTP have been indulging in the sort of illegal-activity, which might result in their party being dissolved by the courts, as you claim ? I hadn't heard about it ?

There is no leader at PTP simply because they don't know when Mr. T will stop paying their paychecks and end the party's run :)

Chaisit ready to Lead Puea Thai Party

Former Supreme Commander and older cousin of ousted prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, Army General Chaisit Shinawatra, is ready to be the new Leader of the opposition Puea Thai Party.

General Chaisit said no Puea Thai Party members had approached him yet after Puea Thai Party Leader Yongyuth Wichaidit affirmed that he will submit his resignation letter next week.

"I believe the appointment would be up to the person who is living abroad (Thaksin). If this happens to be the case, I would not be included in the list for consideration," General Chaisit said. He said he had proposed himself earlier, but the Party did not give any response.

However, the ex-Supreme Commander said he had no problems with the person who is living abroad, and he would be willing to help since they are cousins.

Chaisit is like the nerdy, uncoordinated kid no one wants pick to be on their sports team....

With his outstretched hand waving wildly while he jumps up and down going, "Oh! Oh! Pick me! Pick MEEEEEE!"

And all the other kids pitying him so much, they don't "give any response."

Anyway, perhaps by the one year anniversary of their election defeat, they'll get around to chosing a new PTP Leader and Opposition Leader...

oh wait... excuse me... they're picking one..... "soon"

Not if the executive stops illegal acts of member MP's breaking the election laws.

I guess they can NOT stop the rank and file doing it,

so no one wants to risk the inevitable ban.

Pheu Thai Party begins search for new chief

The Pheu Thai Party is preparing to find a new Party Leader amid reports former Supreme Commander General Chaiyasit Shinawatra is ready to assume the party leadership.

Pheu Thai Party Spokesman Prompong Nopparit said the Party would hold a seminar of MPs and MP candidates at Monthien Riverside on Thursday.

They would brainstorm on the party's direction and strategy.

The Pheu Thai Party executive board will meet today to decide the agenda for this meeting to decide what kind of Leader the Party wants - one who has strong political clout, one who is strong in economics, or a mix of both qualities.

They will decide whether to consider nominees of the calibre of chairman of the party's MPs Chalerm Yoobamrung, Pheu Thai Party party list MP Mingkwan Saengsuwan, Opposition Whip Chairman Withaya Buranasiri, or Pheu Thai Party Nonthaburi MP Apiwan Wiriyachai.

Consideration outside the Party could be given to Olarn Chaiprawat or Chaiyasit Shinawatra.

Chalerm and Mingkwan reportedly have refused to accept the Party Leader post, saying they do not want to be named a "nominee" of former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra.

Responding to reports that Yongyuth Wichaidit would submit his resignation as Pheu Thai Party Leader next week, Chaiyasit said he had not been contacted by anyone about the post. He said he believed the decision on who would be the new Party Leader would depend on 'a person who stays abroad'.

"If that is the case, then I believe my name will not be on the list of Party Leader nominees. I had once offered myself for the post, but there was no response (from him),'' he said.

He said he had never had conflict with the person abroad and was ready to accept the post if asked. "Through our bloodline, we have to help one another no matter what,'' he said.

Democrat Party Leader's Spokesman Thepthai Senpong congratulated the Pheu Thai Party for its decision to change Party Leader, saying if the new leader is an MP, then he can be the Opposition Party Leader and that would help smooth Parliament meetings.

"Coordination between the government and the Opposition will be made easier,'' he said.

Puea Thai Party to select new leader May 31

The opposition Puea Thai Party will call a meeting to select a new Leader and new Secretary-General on May 31.

Puea Thai Party Deputy Leader Kanawat Wasinsungworn said on Monday that most party members wanted the new leader to be an MP who could lead the opposition during House meetings.

Thaksin favours Somchai to lead party

Former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra might be backing Police Lieutenant-Colonel Somchai Petprasert to be the new opposition Puea Thai Party Leader, Puea Thai MP Sunai Julapongsathon said on Tuesday.

Sunai said some MPs had travelled overseas to meet the fugitive politician and they had discussed the future leadership of the Party. They indicated Thaksin may already have a person in mind to succeed Puea Thai Party Leader Yongyuth Wichaidit.

The likely candidate might not be Deputy House Speaker Apiwan Wiriyachai, as many expected, he said. It coud be MP Somchai Petprasert, because Thaksin viewed him as a veteran politician capable of leading the fight against the Democrat party.

Thaksin decided for TRT... he picked himself. Then he decided for PPP, and he picked Samak...and then Somchai... it's only natural that he decide for the PTP... which, in this case, is Somchai2.... who is also a Police Lieutenant-Colonel like himself.
