Non-b Visa To Tourist Visa

Featured Replies

Hello from a Newbie :o

I am currently on a Non-B Visa. I am thinking of quitting my job and returning back home. The thing is, I would like to stay on for a few weeks of leisure before I go back! I understand I have 7 days (with a fee) to leave the country once my WP is cancelled. My question is, am I able to leave the country for a day or 2 (ie: KL or Singapore) and return on a Tourist Visa (30 days) immediately after my Non-B Visa is cancelled? I just wanted to check there was no 'grace' period required before I can return on a Tourist Visa (rules seem to change regulary).

Hope my post made sense.

Thanks in advance :D

If you have a Non B Visa you can stay until it expires. There is no need to do anything.

If you have an Extension based on your job you have to leave on the day you finish your job or get a 7 day extension from Immigration. 1,900 Baht.

Again, a Non B Visa is not affected if you stop work.

No problem returning same day on visa exempt entry or a tourist visa.

You say you are on a Non-B visa, are you still on your visa or did you get an extension of stay from immigraiton. Only when you went to immigration and got an extension will your permission to stay exire when you lose your job. If you still are on your original visa you can just stay on that.

Thanks a lot for your responses. The extension is a good question actually...Im confused.

Heres the situation;

I arrived here on a single entry business visa in April 08

I went with my employer to immigration to get a multiple entry business visa in June 08 (Is this classified as an extension??)

I believe that my multiple entry visa expires in June 09 (my passport is not on me now I would need to confirm at home). So, even though I have to do reporting every 90 days, am I able to stay until June, if I were to quit my job prior? Was my change from single entry to multiple entry classified as an 'extension'?

Since you went to immigration you are on an extension of stay, probably with a multiple entry permit. In Thailand itself you can't get a visa, only an extension of stay. So, you have to leave the country. Your permission of stay will no longer be valid.

Yep. When you quit your job you will have to leave and get a Visa or enter on a Visa Exempt Stamp giving you 30 days at the airport or 15 days if you arrive at a land border.

Ahh ok bugger. But if they let me in again on a tourist VISA after a day or so, that should be fine.

Thanks again for your assistance! :o

They will let you back and you will have no problems.

I'm sorry - I just thought of something & have 1 more question! :o

When I leave after my Non-B VISA is cancelled, is it totally necessary I arrive in Bangkok again by air rather than land? Can I, for example, go to Laos by land and apply for a 60 day tourist VISA? Would I have any issues getting this in LAOS? Does it breach the 90/180 rule?

I understand that for the VISA exemption on arrival, I would only get 15 days by land. But I think the LAOS option is more appealing as I don't have to fly all the way to Singa's or KL.

Is this do-able?

Yes. You can get a double entry tourist visa in Vientiene Laos.

You don't have to fly you can go overland and get your visa in Vientiane. There is no longer a 90 day rule and it never appliced ot visa entries. You will get a 60 day entry using your visa,

There is a 38 page topic on visa runs to Vientiane start on the last page and work your way for some usefull info,
