disforkid
Hi just wondering if someone can help, does anyone know if Paddys Irish Bar in Buriram is open these days and if so what are the opening hours? I've read a few other older threads about the place but nothing has been posted recently (that I can find!) would love to pop in for a Guinness some time. Cheers Dis. Yes Mate it did! We had a great night at Friendz with Chris & Wan. As it was past 7pm, only regular P!ss-artists from Buriram were there. I suppose the rest were tucked up in bed by then. Music/drink&food was good and our party of 8 had a great evening(even though Luke ate my dinner!). Thanks for asking Dave

Just happened to go past "Paddys" today. It was open Not only was it open........but it was OPEN as well. Aiden has seen the light and opened up the front of the bar. So now you will have a view of part of the lake and street, as opposed to feeling like you are in a lockup. Great idea that may attract a few more patrons I also spotted some menus on the tables facing the lake. Hopefully this means that he has got the eatery side of things sorted out as well The place looks a whole lot better and I wish him well (may even call in if the wife loosens the purse strings a little ) Edited February 25, 2009 by Thai Chi

kamalabob2
Irish Bar is FOR SALE. This afternoon a sign in English was posted on the front of the closed up IRISH BAR in Buriram that states BAR FOR SALE. I did not stop to write down the phone number or see the price. It might be a cautionary tale for those expats in Issan looking to "invest" in a business to see how much money was spent to "fit out" this RENTAL space, to support the business while it was open and getting "established", and how much it is now listed for sale. Wife and i are opening a place just outside town, but be a while yet as just started a month ago. Edited March 24, 2009 by Thaicoon

Although I do not profess to knowing a lot about the 'Buriram scene', I just wonder if there are any bars in that town with beautiful Thai girlies ???. A great way to pull in punters IMHO. He bought Chelsea for something like a quid and then sold it for around 27 million. Blokes having a Girraffe if he thinks he's gonna pull a stunt off like that. I might go up there and give him an offer for all that crafted woodwork he's got plastered all over the front, Be nice on my porch. In fact all you need to do is rip the whole place out and bring it to Surin. Anywhere but the CURSED Buriram.

torrenova
His rent is ok if you had some reason to use the rooms. The kitchen is a farce and likely needs a total revamp. His bar is useless re fridges etc. so there are no real assets. His ancient TV and fan do not count. OK, his woodwork is worth something but no great shakes if he rips it out. It is worth about a fiver to anyone else. Realistic figures ? If his lease is 3+3+3 with no key money and minor rent increases and he pays government electric, then perhaps a few hundred thousand. There is no goodwill, in fact, that might be negative ( ). It would take some serious investment to get it up and running properly. Perhaps a few hundred thousand for proper fridges, store room and a kitchen, fix stuff like the toilet basin, employee some staff on decent wages and have a serious lead in of loss leaders to build up trade. However, the biggest problem in Buriram is that most people won't spend come Christmas. Never have I seen a city with so many penny pinching cheap charlies. Therefore, everything is purely price competitive which never works. Moving away from price competition means offering things which people in Buriram will not pay a premium for. I could make it work, but the prices and lease would have to be cheap enough to start with. I'll pay 5 million ok, in Vietnamese Dong or Zimbabwean Mugabes or whatever it is there ! prakhonchai nick
The currency exchange costs of dongs or mugabes would likely be prohibitive. Keep it simple - keep it Thai. How about 5 million satangs!
