Two Thais executed in Saudi Arabia for drugs smuggling

BANGKOK: -- Two Thai nationals were recently executed in Saudi Arabia for illegally smuggling of drugs into the country, the Ministry of Labour announced here today.

The Deputy Permanent Secretary for Labour, Thapabutr Jamasevi, in his capacity as the Labour Ministry Spokesman, told TNA today that the two Thais were identified as Mr. Uthai Mahanam and Mr. Bancherd Sangniam.

"The two Thai nationals were executed for smuggling 200 kilogrammes of marituana into the Middle Eastern country", he disclosed.

"Mr. Uthai, 51, was from Thailand's northeastern province of Khon Kaen. He had run business in Jeddah for over 10 years, while Mr. Bancherd had criminal records in Saudi Arabia and used to be jailed, and had changed his names several times", he said.

Thailand's labour office in Jeddah is working with the Thai Consulate in the country to bring their bodies back home.
