LancasterBFC Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 Bangkok Post reviewed it last week and said it would be out on February 26, had been hoping to see it this weekend but doesn't seem to be listed anywhere. Anyone have any idea?
Jingthing Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 Thursday March 5 at Apex Siam Square Bangkok. You missed the sneak preview on Feb 26. I don't know if there will be a Thailand wide release. According to this site, only the one theater in Bangkok. http://www.pantip.com/cafe/chalermthai/rel...lease-2009.html
samuibeachcomber Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 well its out on dvd,but if you like the movies have no idea.did it really win 8 oscars?i mean it was ok but not that good.

Yep agree with Patklang, I downloaded all 3 too, and 150 others, well I have to something with this fast connection in Japan..... Slumdog is very good.
H2oDunc Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 Patklang dont bother with gran Torino. The biggest load of crap that Ive seen in ages. Just when you think its going to finally start it ends. Eastwood must be desperate to pay the mortgage is all I can think!
patklang Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 Normaly Clint Eastwood is a very good actor
Digitalman Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 Slumdog was pretty good.. One of those makes you happy and sad at the same time sort of movies.. GranTorino was decent, though sometimes I think they tried too hard to establish certain characters and ideas and thus for me the acting was cheesy. Eastwood's character was a hard ass, working class, American vet, but they even over cooked that a bit, though unlike the other actors Eastwood pulled off. And not to spoil the ending, but I was completely expecting an Unforgiven style send them to hel_l sort of ending.. I liked the ending but the beginning and middle, could have been better. I really liked Benjamin Button for some reason. I saw all of these movies around the same time and I think they are all worth a look.

DP25 Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 well its out on dvd,but if you like the movies have no idea.did it really win 8 oscars?i mean it was ok but not that good. Same. It was ok but not that great. I think it won so many because it's basically slum porn for white people.

Just when you think its going to finally start it ends. Eastwood must be desperate to pay the mortgage is all I can think! +1. From the trailers, I wasn't that interested in seeing it in the theaters. I got a copy from someone in the motion picture academy that they distribute for oscar voting. I ended up just hitting the fast forward button to all the scenes, and got the entire gist of the movie. Pretty predictable, cliche'd and downright dull.

That was my thoughts on it, over-rated but as it involved poor non whites it gave the wealthy apologist liberals something to vote for.
billp Posted March 1, 2009 Posted March 1, 2009 Slumdog Millionaire was playing last night at the Lido in Siam Square, but when we got there - 20 min. before showtime - it was sold out.

Bootleg copies are 100 baht a pop and you can slumdog yourself by sitting in your underwear and watching it. totally overrated film

I am not in Bangkok but the service I use for movie times does not show Slumdog playing there now. Strange. Slumdog is a must see, don't listen to the whiners here. samuibeachcomber Posted March 1, 2009 Posted March 1, 2009 I know were talking about slum dog here, but someone mentioned gran torino, which i liked, but then there's not a film clint eastwood has made that i have not enjoyed....................the ending was unexpected. Regarding slum dog,i have travelled to india back in the seventies and seen much more horror than the film depicted,as well as blinding them they cut their arms off just below the elbow so they can beg with a bucket hanging from the elbow, have seen naked women sleeping under railway stairs with cockroackes and flees all over them, have seen farang on heroin begging for a fix from indians,by comparison the scenes in slum dog were tame.the top oscar winners in my opinion are fixed anyway, but hollywood just loves to go all gooie over themselves, with self congratulations,i find it a pathetic nights entertainment.
samuibeachcomber Posted March 1, 2009 Posted March 1, 2009 Slumdog: NOT a documentary! I know but i would have liked to see a bit more reality to the slum side of the dog.
davejonesbkk Posted March 1, 2009 Posted March 1, 2009 well its out on dvd,but if you like the movies have no idea.did it really win 8 oscars?i mean it was ok but not that good. While we are on the topic of Oscars whats up with Sean Penn getting best actor?? Mickey Rourke should have got it for The Wrestler!

While we are on the topic of Oscars whats up with Sean Penn getting best actor?? Mickey Rourke should have got it for The Wrestler! Did you see Milk? Both performances were great. Only one can win. That said, the academy voters are a left wing bunch (bless their hearts) and a film about California gay rights martyr Harvey Milk was bound to have an edge in a close contest like that one. It was interesting to learn that Penn and Rourke are good buddies, didn't know that before. BTW, I have seen Penn act live in a play and he is indeed one of the great actors of our time.

In this day and age cant people just watch the film and say good or bad without coming out with crap like that. <deleted> SLUM PORN----WHAT THE hel_l IS THAT pathetic drivel.

patklang Posted March 1, 2009 Posted March 1, 2009 thats been a little bit deep i think.Movies are for enjoyment and yes you discuss with friends what you feel but to say slum porn thats very strange, unless you are one of those pc correct people then i could accept the strange comment.
Jingthing Posted March 1, 2009 Posted March 1, 2009 If you are looking for "slum porn" try Born Into Brothels. Two documentary filmmakers chronicle their time in Sonagchi, Calcutta and the relationships they developed with children of prostitutes who work the city's notorious red light district.
