Metal Detecting On Thai Beach

Featured Replies

sawadee krap. are there thai metal detecting clubs????? is it ok to do????? if yes how do i contact ????? and eny info plzzzzzz. pai gone na

Under Thai law anything of value that you find automatically becomes the property of that policeman watching you from the bushes.

Had a friend back in the UK who was into it in a big way. He would spend days researching in the library and then get permission from the land owner to search. He has had some good finds, though in the UK it is frowned upon by archaeologists and the like. I don't know what reaction you would get from the Thais doing it on the beach but I would imagine there are lots of old sites where you could get lucky but again don't know where you stand on ownership of anything you find. In the Uk you are supposed to declare every find and if its declared treasure trove you either get the find or the market value of it. I did notice somebody offering an underwater one for sale. Can't really see a use for that here?
