Working Vs Non Working Foreigners Here In Thailand On Business / Tourism Issues

Featured Replies

Lets put aside the things we already know about thailand being this or that. I am writing this post because I see many times posts regarding tourism and it either is

Dieing

Over priced

Assumed that many business don’t have any tourists

It would seem though the only one’s who have a clue are us the one’s who work here and people we know who work in this industry. Not to be judgemental but many times I have seen those of you who don’t work here only assume, guess and have no real idea of maybe anything going on regarding businesses, tourists, my advice get some information and provide actual facts, put aside for a moment the global recession, and thai politics, I do know a few hotels that have 50 % or more occupancy, you know what it came down to for having guests right now

  • Redoing contracts with agencies,
  • Dropping the price on an average room contract rate
  • Providing a buy 3 nights get 4th night free ( an example )
  • Making sure you have a contract with some of the big European agencies
  • Advertising, Marketing, always trying to get more exposure
  • Doing something different that most hotels
  • Amount of debt ratio that you have
  • Those who have saved, prepared, have access to cash will survive long term.
  • Note not all people have the same time of year for holiday, Japanense, Chinese, Koreans, Russians, Europeans all have major holidays during certain times of year and during certain months you see more of a certain nationality. Note I wouldn’t put America in this since Americans get almost no vacation time period.

Most of you retired non working people, your only real concern is watching your currency go down. And wanting to live in the past in Thailand when things were 5 baht this or that, that’s what I see quite a bit of these days.

On tourism dieing, I’ve only know of a few times when tourism was badly crippled ( bird flu, 9/11 ) or more extreme in countries civil war, disease, or if something more extreme than that World War 2. Tourism in Thailand is not died, slowing down oh yeah. I see 4 likely scenarios for tourism to die here

  • in 4 years time we’ve manage to pick our selves up and oil starts on its high rise, oil prices reach $300 dollars a barrel, Affording airfare or traveling become almost dead as its way to expense to fly or even drive
  • Thailand loses what little common sense it has becomes a full blown civil war like parts of Africa and everybody loses their life from thai’s to foreigners
  • Due to money under the table, lack of vision, or things we already know, thailand’s infrastructure collapses.
  • Thaksin makes a come back, and becomes prime minister again, although that probably leads back up to point number 2

Overpriced on what I mean people have choices and lots of them regarding everything here in Thailand from

Hotels 1 star to 5 star

Restaurant prices of all kinds, ( if you willing to try local food you’d be surprised what you can get for 20 baht

Airlines, forget Bangkok air or thai airways, you’ve got airasia for goodness sake to

Shopping you’ve got the weekend market in Bangkok if you like or if you want a more upscale go to the siam paragon

If things are so good how come for instance arivals in January in Perth were up over 6% on last year. Are Thailands?

First step in solving a problam is recognising the problem and accepting the need to change.

Maybe it's just pedantic old me, but after I got past the acceptable errors in spelling and grammar, I never knew what the OP was talking about. Well, tourism in Thailand. And you must both be in Thailand and in tourism, to know about those things. Four unlikely scenarios. And then he concluded....huh?

me too, zero idea what's that all about. But I gave up after the first sentences(Ling.).

I'm with 'shockandawe' what ever it is he's on about, as he's gone to a lot of trouble to confuse me.

?

Impressive: Joined today, new topic, long first post. :o

Let's not mention the t-word yet. :D

Phew... what a relief... and I thought "I" was struggling with this first post...

I guess that settles it then. The rest of us are insane, and shockandawe is the only sane person here, although shock has his doubts about awe.

What he's saying is that a lot of posters on here have no idea what they're talking about.

Or what he's talking about also apparently :o
