Hello,

today my bicyle was stolen. I locked it at a bus traffic sign at the footpath of sukhumvit rd 20. I go to the fitness gym for one

hour. When i come back my bicyle was not here anymore. Nearby wait a few motorbike taxi drivers, but of course nobody

see anything. I am very sad, because i bought it two weeks ago second hand for 7000 baht.

I searched long time to find the right bicycle for me, because i am very tall.

I am very amazed, because it was daytime and a lot of people walk at the footpath. And the lock was solid. So are there people walking arround

with a big gripper in the pocket and look for bicycles??? It looks not like a expensive one, and as i wrote before it was very big, so a normal thai

can not use this bicyle.

So i am not sure to search for a new one, because it will be happens again and again.

Any ideas or thoughts how to avoid such problem and where i can find big used or not so expensive bicycle in bkk??

Thank you

Alex

Sorry about your loss, if it were me, I would check the store / person you bought it from. Probably a 20% they have reclaimed it and are hoping to sell it once again to someone else. If you are as tall as you say you are, I will keep an eye out for a local riding around on a bike that he / she cant touch the ground on.

Did you park it in a proper bike "rack" with many other bikes there, or just on its own against a pole? If it was in a bike rack, they may have someone looking after it in a semi-official capacity.

I had my bike locked once before in one of those racks and someone tried to steal it. They cut the lock, but luckily a guy under the bridge fixing shoes ran after him and stopped him, then rescued my bike and locked it up against his own. He then adamantly refused to let anyone else near my bike except me - including my wife, who was prepared to leave her ID card with him in order to take it home for me. When I turned up, the shoe-fixer and a few of the other shop owners came out and told me about what had happened and returned my bike to me, and one of them had a kind of incident book in which I filled in all my details to report the attempted stealing, and to confirm that I had taken the bike back safely. (Of course, I am eternally grateful to the shoe-fixing guy for going to such efforts to save my bike!)

Not sure how official any of this was - but they may have a similar system near where you locked your bike. Maybe ask the shop-keepers nearby and one of them may have seen something, or could maybe help you to try and get it back.
