Does anyone know how the 2000 baht payment to thais works.

Some Thais have told me they will get it from the government by way of a "cheque" but they must spend and not bank it??

Will it be by way of vouchers?

IF you fall for the Oishi Scam, it will be vouchers. As for your first question, do you honestly believe any will bank it?

what is the oishi scam? never heard of it. The Nation, a respected source, announced the government was giving some thais a one off 2000 baht cheque. But it seems it will not be a cheque so obviously they won't be able to bank it. That's why I thought it might be vouchers which would have to be spent. if so, a Keynesian solution of spending and not saving to ease the recession.

Yes, please tell us about this Oishi scam, please. There was a bizarre commentary in today's Bangkok Post about an Oishi scam, and I'd bet a good chunk 'o Baht you're the author, bkkjames.

A google news search on "Oishi Thailand" yields absolutely nothing. The most offensive part of the Bangkok Post commentary came in the last setence where the author claims that 2000 Baht handout recipients do not "deserve" to eat at Oishi.

It doesn't really matter how people spend it as long as someone has to do some work to produce those goods or services. There are plenty of low paid waiters and cooks at Oishi that equally deserve our custom.

What about this sentence, "Worse, I'm pretty sure these handout recipients will bring along their friends and families." :o

:D:D Yeah, I loved that line too! THere ought to be some interesting letters in tomorrow's edition. How dare those poor people treat their family and friends to a meal! :o

I was under the impression that one has to have been at least administratively connected to the income tax system in order to qualify for the 2000 hence, there have only been 9.4 million individuals considered eligible. This could be a PAD driven ploy to point out that some 50 million rural Thais and otherwise poor Thais pay no taxes.

In the US, lots of retailers offered to double stimulus checks last Summer. So if you got $300, you'd get an extra $300 store credit if you spent it all there.

Wal-Mart's revenues went up those months by almost the full amount of that stimulus package. Maybe Big C or Tesco should follow suit.

Hey, where can I get a job where I only have to work 40 hours a week?
