I think you have posted in the wrong section.

You can buy the car but cannot register ownership, unless you have your name in a house register (tabien bahn).

Not so. I just bought a new car and registered it in my name complete with blue registration book. Don't have a tabien bahn (yellow or blue) or a work permit either.

OP,

Yes you can buy a car as long as you have a Thai co-sign with you. Done it twice, no probs whatsoever! On both occassions the dealer sorted out the finance.

As for the other responses, the OP was not asking whether the car could be registered in his name. If paying for the car via finance the blue book is provided to the person who purchased the car once all repayments have been made or outstanding balance settled in full. In the meatime, you are provided with a photocopy of the registration book.
