Would appreciate opinion on legality of marriage documents in Thailand when birthdate is not correct and does not match Thai book and I.D. card.

Just noticed error on Thai documents after almost four years.

Thanks

That could happen years (or decades) ago, before computers.

Indeed, to get an ID a Thai person has to bring in her house papers (if that is what you mean as "Thai book").

Name spelling in Thai and alphabet for Thai passport is a constant source of problems, spelling pops up regularly even for driving license.

IMO, that marriage certificate is void for anything. Even within Thailand.

What you have now could be regarded as a marriage certificate to a different person. Might even get you into a trouble.

It sounds as if you are referring to a Thai certificate. If so, I am perplexed. I just looked at my Thai marriage certificate to confirm what I thought I remembered and, no, there is no birth date on it. From my perspective, assuming the forms haven't changed (we got married a LOOOONG time ago) , the certificate simply says who married who. The identity of the two parties is accomplished some other way.

If there is a "new" Thai certificate with the dates on it or you are talking about a foreign certificate with the dates, typographical errors can be corrected in some manner, even if it is just a statement attached saying original had typo.

The certificate should be valid unless there were an covert intent to mis-identify one of the parties for whatever reason.

Now if you asking is the certificate valid if the documents indentifying one of the parties (e.g., birth certicate, house registration, ID card, passport)do not agree because of typographical errors, then it is a slightly different question but same answer. Typographical errors can be corrected.

Thank you for your input. You are correct, it is not the marriage certificate that has the incorrect date. The heading of the document is "Marriage Register". It was signed at the Tambon office upon registering the marriage and the issuance of the certificate.

Thanks again and regards,
