I'm using SyncBack Pro V5.3.0.18 My backups always give a Critical Error failure notice. On checking the log I see the problem is to do with "Microsoft cardSpace" whatever that is.

\MyName\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\CardSpace\CardSpace.db Failed to copy from Documents Settings :

Cannot copy file (5): Access is denied.

\MyName\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\CardSpace\CardSpace.db.shadow Failed to copy from Documents Settings :

Googling tells me that CardSpace comes with Net framework 3.5 and the only way to get rid of CardSpace is to uninstall NET.

I must be needing NET for something so don't want to uninstall it but I would like to get rid of the 2 CardSpace files that are upsetting SyncBack.

I have followed the file paths as noted above but can't find either of them. I have checked "Show Hidden Folders" and have done several searches of my system but they are nowhere to be found. They must bet there as SyncBack finds them but where could they be? :o

I do know about alternative BackUp programs but this is not the issue here, anyone suggesting an alternative program will be immediately removed from my Xmas list. :D

Can you repeat the error on other PCs? I have SyncbackSE 5.3 and don't have this problem on Vista. My equivalent folders in Vista also include both CardSpace files as well.

I only have the one home computer so can't try if the problem happens on another one. I'm running XP Pro SP3.

The only reference I can see to CardSpace is in the Control Panel and if I click on it I get "Class not Registered" error. It all seems a bit useless to me, I just want to find the two files that Syncback doesn't like and delete them.

Why not just list those files as exceptions in Synchback to not include in the backup?

Can you do that? :D I really should start reading instructions sometimes. :o

Anyway sorted the problem. Did a "Run - Search" looking for CardSpace with "Show hidden files and subfolders" This found the little critters and was then able to delete all traces of CardSpace, though I did need to use Unlocker on one stubborn file.

Cheers
