March 10, 200917 yr Just moved to Fang which gets cold like Hawaii in the winter. Yep ! when it snows on the volcano (Big Island) it's darn cold. The locals all have kerosene heaters. On Alibaba website there are heaters for sale from China. So must I make a trip to Kunming or does someone know where I can buy such a heater. I saw one house in Fang with a fire place. But everyone seems to buy giant Chinese blankets that weigh a tonne. Like a good Boy Scout getting ready for the freeze.
March 10, 200917 yr I'm pretty sure I saw all kinds of kerosene, and gas, and charcoal heaters for sale in the main market in Mae Sai. Surely there must be some local dealer in Fang (big city) that can order you anything, if not in stock. BTW, not exactly cold in Fang right now. About 37?

BTW, not exactly cold in Fang right now. About 37? Is it a Irish handle ? Anyway, thank you for the quick info re: heating needs. I'm jumping the gun somewhat. In November when I first came to Fang (one of the lowest recorded cold places) it was amazing how cold this place is. I have lived in Nepal (brrr), South Dakota (USA) 90 degrees below O wind chill factor and Vermont (USA) near Canada (super cold). In Nepal, I sold kerosene heaters to the expat and UN community. Some local Nepalii bought them for their houses, hotel, etc. So off to Mae Sai for a look see. Thanks again, Rick
March 11, 200917 yr Author It's still cool at night in the mountains. Yep ! long wool socks, pjays, long sleeve shirt, blankets, windows closed still cold in mountains. Usually off to the mineral baths here in Fang to warm the old blood plus Jameson at night.
March 12, 200917 yr Rubbish... what we are discussing here is the use of alcohol for medicinal purposes, not self gratification.
March 12, 200917 yr I've been searching for a heater for some years now.....it gets cold in CM too. I finally had a friend bring over from Hawaii [of all places]....it was lpg and better choice, as lpg is cheap, no smell like kerosene and has some safety features that shut down gas flow when flame is gone. And I did a search in maesai and found gas waterheaters, but no heaters........if you are lucky, let me know if you find one there and how much and where?? Meanwhile, OP is from Hawaii, Volcano.....my brother just built there there and I'm from Kapoho, small world. Do a google on 'mr heater' and you will see some nifty lpg heaters.
