Probably posted in the wrong place...

possibly there is no minimum hight requirement for balcony railings, or the powers that be just look the other way, have heard of two incidents in the Pattaya area where adults allegedly fell over the railings because they were to low.

Just took a quick scan of the UK Building Regs 2000, part K, section 3, Guards & Barriers, quit clearly states for outside balconies the minimum height is 1100mm (44") where there is more than 600mm (24") drop.

Also of interest is section 3.3 quote; " Where buildings are likely to be used by children under 5 years the guarding should prevent children being held fast by the guarding. The construction should be such that a 100mm (4") sphere cannot through any opening in the guarding and so that children will not readably be able climb it. horizontal rails should be avoided."
